Job Description
Roha Medical Campus (RMC) is a state-of-the-art healthcare facility in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, dedicated to delivering world-class, affordable medical services to Ethiopians and patients across Africa. The campus features an Advanced Multispecialty Hospital equipped with cutting-edge medical technologies and designed with a strong commitment to sustainability through green building practices. Focused on specialized care in areas with limited or no availability in Africa, as well as medical education and research, RMC aims to strengthen Africa’s healthcare infrastructure, reduce the need for outbound medical travel, and position Ethiopia as a hub for medical excellence. RMC is one of the largest private healthcare investments in Africa, with over $130 million allocated for its first phase, which includes the Advanced Multispecialty Hospital.
Location: This role is based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Timing: May 2025
Remuneration: Salary is competitive and will depend on the applicant’s background and experience.
Lead the development, deployment, integration, and maintenance of HIS solutions, actively engaging with key stakeholders to fulfil operational requirements.
Define and document both functional and non-functional HIS requirements in line with the facility’s strategic objectives.
Assess HIS options by analysing quality, vendor experience, and long-term technical support availability to identify the most suitable solution.
Collaborate with healthcare providers, IT teams, consultants, and operators to select the most suitable HIS solutions.
Develop a detailed HIS budget, encompassing all financial aspects of implementation and maintenance. Negotiate with suppliers and consultants to ensure cost-effective procurement of HIS solutions.
Assist in the procurement and updating of HIS software, ensuring the system remains current, functional, and aligned with evolving healthcare needs.
Conduct pre- and post-purchase evaluations of HIS solutions to assess quality and suitability. Develop risk assessment and mitigation strategies to ensure seamless adherence to infrastructure requirements.
Lead system training sessions, monitor user adoption, and evaluate training effectiveness. Develop a comprehensive support plan and provide ongoing troubleshooting for system users.
Manage unified project timelines, track implementation milestones, and provide stakeholders with detailed analysis, recommendations, and progress reports.
Ensure HIS interoperability with other healthcare technologies, IT solutions, and medical equipment to support long-term scalability and adaptability.
Monitor system performance, analyse user feedback, and recommend enhancements to improve efficiency and usability.
Conduct regular audits to ensure data integrity, security, and system compliance with healthcare regulations and industry standards.
Assist in the development and enforcement of policies and procedures related to HIS usage, ensuring best practices and regulatory adherence.
Stay updated with the latest developments in HIS technology, healthcare regulations, and industry best practices.
Facilitate effective communication between healthcare providers, system vendors, consultants, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth operations.
Oversee and ensure the smooth implementation of system updates and upgrades to maintain functionality and efficiency.
Undertake other related duties as necessary to contribute to the project’s success.
About the candidate
Successful applicants have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, strong and effective leadership skills, organizational skills with the ability to track goal achievement, the ability to manage a budget, are flexible and imaginative, high-energy, persistent, self-starters, are good communicators in writing and verbally, and will preferably have a proven track record of delivering on complex projects in challenging environments. Applicants could demonstrate this by having:
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in health information technology, computer sciences, or a related field.
Expereince: Minimum of 5 years of experience in implementing and managing HIS in a healthcare setting.
Advanced proficiency in programming languages and Electronic Medical Record (EMR) software, such as SQL and Epic.
Strong knowledge of Electronic Health Records (EHR), Hospital Management Systems (HMS), and healthcare data standards (HL7, FHIR, ICD, etc.).
Experience with database management, cybersecurity best practices, and software troubleshooting.
Knowledge of medical terminology, coding systems, clinical workflows, statistics, and quality assurance.
Familiarity with regulatory compliance, including local healthcare data policies, ethics, and privacy regulations.
Excellent and effective communicator, both oral and written, with internal and external stakeholders.
Strong problem-solving, reporting, and analytical skills. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment.
English and Amharic fluency is a must.
Experience working in Ethiopia is a must.
