The Role
The Electrical Foreman is responsible for supervising electrical maintenance and repair teams, ensuring all electrical systems and equipment are safe and operational, and managing daily activities, budgets, and resources.
Duties and Responsibilities
Team and task management: Lead and supervise electrical crews, plan daily maintenance activities, and guide and assist electricians.
Electrical system maintenance: Oversee the installation, maintenance, and repair of all electrical systems and equipment, including high-voltage (HV) and medium-voltage (MV) distribution, substations, and ancillary systems.
Troubleshooting and problem-solving: Analyze and solve electrical problems and attend callouts for breakdowns.
Safety and compliance: Ensure strict adherence to mine health and safety acts, company policies, and standard operating procedures to create a safe working environment.
Resource and cost management: Compile budgets, control costs, manage spare parts and equipment, and forecast resource needs.
Project management: Plan and coordinate electrical projects and oversee their execution to meet deadlines.
Record-keeping: Maintain accurate records of all electrical reticulation, maintenance, and inspections.
Finance & Commercial:
Apply accounting processes and practices.
Apply procurement processes.
Implement optimisation initiatives.
Ensure monthly expenditure to be in budget.
Leadership / management:
Implement policies, processes, and procedures within function.
Drive performance and achieving function outcomes.
Maintain fairness and objectivity in difficult people decisions.
Collaborate with teams and encourage individual contribution.
Drive collaborative teamwork to achieve function objectives.
Drive cross functional teamwork to achieve functional objectives.
Coach individual team members with technical skills.
Develop trainees and/or backup support within the team for roster breaks.
People:
Coaching and transfer of knowledge
Assist teams to focus on the task at hand and remove obstacles.
Develop teams' understanding of technical and commercial aspects contributing to business success.
Ensure that the HR System (BambooHR) is utilized.
Ensure training of teams to improve skill levels and achieve function objectives.
Health and Safety:
Ensure work processes are free from safety and health hazards and that subordinates are trained to ensure safety in the workplace.
Model behavior consistent with the Allied Safety Vision and Values.
Implement departmental health and safety goals.
Risk Management:
Support the management of an Engineering risk register and develop mitigating actions as required.
Conduct and control of risk assessments.
Promote risk awareness to team members
Safeguarding Children and Young People (Safeguarding) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI): Understands and puts into practice the responsibilities under Safeguarding and GEI policies and Kurmuk Gold Mine PLC Code of Conduct (CoC), ensuring that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.
Job Requirements
Qualifications
Diploma or degree in electrical Engineering or Grade 12.
N3 Electrical Certificate
Valid Electrical Trade Certificate from a recognized institution
Valid international driver's license
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years’ experience as an Electrical Foreman in a mining environment
Strong knowledge of electrical systems, including MV switchgear, substations, and reticulation networks
Knowledge of processes for electrical maintenance in power generation and fixed plant environment
Knowledge of process control systems and instrumentation.
Technical Skills:
Ability to manage at front line, conducting inspection, repairs, and service maintenance work leadership experience with subordinates.
Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel
Written and spoken English and Amharic
Coaching and mentoring abilities in fostering employee development by enhancing their skills, knowledge, and overall performance.
Skilled in identifying and targeting specific areas for growth, setting clear goals, and creating personalized development plans.
