Job Description

The Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) is an independent not-for-profit organization based in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. In Ethiopia, IHI is registered at the F.D.R.E Authority for Civil Societies Organization and closely working with the Ministry of Health. Learn more at ihi.org.

IHI is looking for Clinical Mentors / Improvement Advisors for Gates Foundation funded- Improving Neonatal Survival project. 

Duty Station: Addis Ababa, with frequent travel to project sites

Employment type: Full time

The Improvement Advisor (IA) will work closely with the IHI Ethiopia team to lead and oversee the implementation of the initiative at the regional, zonal, woreda and health facility levels. 

The Improvement Advisor will be responsible for providing mentorship and building QI capability to facility teams and strengthening clinical and improvement practices. The improvement advisor will be responsible for providing support for networked health facilities in various regions

Job Requirements

Position Qualification Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Willingness to commit to IHI’s mission and values.

  • MPH and Improvement Advisor Certificate required. 

  • Ten or more years of experience which at least the five years should be in leadership role and working in the Ethiopian health system required.

  • Expertise in maternal and neonatal health and best practices required.

  • Deep knowledge of Ethiopian health care system required.

  • Experience applying quality improvement methods in a health care setting preferred.

  • Strong understanding of data analysis methods required.

  • Strong written and oral communication capability is preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams preferred.

  • Ability to travel within Ethiopia up to 50% of the time required.

  • Coaching, mentorship, and team leadership skills.

  • Ability to work effectively alone and as part of a team. 

  • Superior critical thinking, initiative, creativity, and problem-solving skills.

  • Drive to effectively develop self, others, and teams.

  • Fluency in written and oral English and Amharic required.
