 Job Description 

Machine Operator – Plasma Cutting Machine

1. Position Title: Machine Operator – Plasma Cutting (CNC/Manual Plasma)

2. Department: Production / Manufacturing

3. Reporting To: Production Supervisor / Workshop Coordinator

4. Duty Station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (Pardus Engineering Workshop/Factory)

5. Job Purpose:

To operate plasma cutting machines (CNC or manual) with precision and efficiency to produce high-quality metal components according to engineering drawings, production plans, and safety standards.

6. Key Duties and Responsibilities

A. Machine Operation

  • Set up, operate, and shut down plasma cutting machines (CNC/Manual).

  • Load and secure metal sheets/plates onto the cutting table.

  • Select and install appropriate nozzles, consumables, and cutting parameters.

  • Execute CNC programs or manually guide plasma torch as required.

  • Monitor cutting accuracy and adjust settings for optimal quality.

B. Quality Control & Output

  • Interpret engineering drawings, cutting lists, and material specifications.

  • Verify materials, dimensions, tolerances, and part requirements before cutting.

  • Inspect completed components and ensure compliance with quality standards.

  • Report defects, inaccuracies, or machine malfunctions promptly.

C. Maintenance & Housekeeping

  • Clean and maintain plasma cutting machines, filters, consumables, and workspace.

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance as per schedule.

  • Ensure cutting tables, torches, and consumables are in proper condition.

  • Report maintenance needs for timely repair.

D. Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all company safety protocols and PPE requirements.

  • Ensure safe handling of gas cylinders, electrical equipment, and hot materials.

  • Maintain a clean, hazard-free working environment.

E. Production Support

  • Collaborate with welders, fabricators, and supervisors for production planning.

  • Assist in material handling, storing, and labeling cut items.

  • Keep accurate records of daily production, waste, and consumable usage.

 Job Requirements

1. Required Qualifications & Experience

  • TVET Level II or above in Manufacturing, Metalwork, Mechanical, Industrial Manufacturing, or related field.

  • Minimum 1–3 years of experience operating plasma cutting machines (CNC or manual).

  • Experience in metal fabrication companies is highly preferred.

2. Required Skills & Competencies

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.

  • Knowledge of CNC plasma cutting software (if applicable).

  • Understanding of metallurgy and sheet/plate cutting techniques.

  • Basic mechanical troubleshooting skills.

  • High attention to detail and precision.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

  • Strong safety awareness.

4. Working Conditions

  • Factory/workshop environment with exposure to heat, noise, dust, and sparks.

  • Shift or extended hours may be required during high production periods.
