 Job Description 

 Machinist – Torno / Lathe Machine

1. Position Title: Machinist – Torno/Lathe Machine

2. Department: Production / Manufacturing

3. Reports To: Production Supervisor / Workshop Coordinator

4. Duty Station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (Pardus Engineering Workshop/Factory)

5. Job Purpose: 

To operate Torno/Lathe machines with precision to produce metal components according to drawings, machining standards, and production schedules.

6. Key Duties and Responsibilities

A. Machine Operation

  • Set up, operate, and shut down Torno/Lathe machines.

  • Load and secure workpieces according to specifications.

  • Select tools, cutting speeds, and feed rates.

  • Perform turning, threading, facing, drilling, and related machining operations.

  • Monitor machining progress and adjust parameters as required.

B. Quality Control & Output

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and machining symbols.

  • Measure finished parts using calipers, micrometers, and gauges.

  • Verify compliance with dimensions, tolerances, and surface finish.

  • Report defects or inaccuracies promptly.

C. Maintenance & Housekeeping

  • Clean and lubricate lathe machines and tools.

  • Replace worn tools and report machine issues.

  • Maintain machining area in a clean and organized condition.

D. Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all company safety protocols and PPE requirements.

  • Ensure safe handling of cutting tools, metal chips, and rotating machinery.

  • Maintain a hazard-free working environment.

E. Production Support

  • Coordinate with welders and fabricators for part sequencing.

  • Assist in material handling, labeling, and storage.

  • Record daily production and tool usage.

Job Requirements

1.Required Qualifications & Experience

  • TVET Level II or above in Machine Technology, Machining, Metalwork, or related field.

  • 1–3 years experience operating Torno/Lathe machines.

  • Experience in metal fabrication is an added advantage.

2. Required Skills & Competencies

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.

  • Precision measurement and machining skills.

  • Knowledge of cutting tools and machining parameters.

  • Basic mechanical troubleshooting.

3. Personal Attributes

  • Detail-oriented and safety-conscious.

  • Strong work ethic and discipline.

  • Team player with good communication skills.

4. Working Conditions

  • Factory/workshop environment with noise, rotating machines, and metal chips.

  • Use of PPE: gloves, goggles, safety boots, apron, ear protection.
