The Public Relations & Research Liaison is a pivotal role that combines strategic communication with deep scientific understanding. He/she will be responsible for research activities into compelling narratives for various audiences, enhancing the laboratory's reputation, and securing support from the public, funders, and partners. He/ She will act as the voice of SDE, ensuring our services and discoveries are communicated accurately, ethically, and impact fully
Duties and Responsibilities:
Public Relations & Strategic Communications
Content Creation & Dissemination: Develop and execute a comprehensive PR strategy, including press releases, media kits, blog posts, newsletters, and social media content that highlight research milestones, publications, and laboratory achievements.
Media Relations: Serve as the primary point of contact for all media inquiries. Proactively pitch stories to scientific, medical, and business journalists. Organize and manage press conferences and media tours.
Reputation Management: Monitor media coverage and public sentiment. Develop and implement strategies to protect and enhance the laboratory's brand and reputation.
Stakeholder Engagement: Create targeted communication materials for key stakeholders, including donors, grant-making bodies, patient advocacy groups, and industry partners
Internal Communications: Facilitate internal communication to ensure staff and researchers are aligned with the laboratory's public message and brand.
Work closely with principal investigators and researchers to understand their projects, interpret complex data, and translate scientific findings into clear, accessible language for non-scientific audiences.
Assist research teams in crafting the non-technical sections of grant proposals (e.g., public health relevance, lay summaries) to make them more compelling to reviewers and funders.
Collaborate with researchers to develop communication plans for high-impact publications, including coordinating embargoed press releases.
Prepare researchers for presentations, media interviews, and public talks. Develop summaries, abstracts, and promotional materials for scientific conferences and symposia.
Develop and manage outreach programs for schools, universities, and the general public to foster an understanding of and interest in the laboratory's field of research.
Job Requirements:
Education: Medical practitioner (MD) with relevant experience
Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a public relations, or medical writing role, preferably within Advanced Laboratory, pharmaceutical company, hospital. Proven track record of successfully pitching and placing store
Proven track record of successfully pitching and placing stories in relevant media outlets.
Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills with the ability to distill complex scientific concepts for diverse audiences, Established relationships with health, science, and technology journalists
