Job Description

The raw material specialist is responsible for enforcing, maintaining, and monitoring the quality of incoming materials. He/she will also effectively interact with all levels of staff and with clients to ensure all regulatory, preserved identity, and customer expectations are being met. Under the supervision of the Process technologist brewing, the raw material specialist manages technological aspects of the process, including following brewing and packaging trials, setting standards for incoming raw materials and controlling them, and approving new items or packaging materials.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain incoming materials quality checking systems & standards.

  • Perform incoming material quality check and prepare the incoming materials receiving report.

  • Ensuring that incoming materials meet set requirements and specifications.

  • Managing material storage in the warehouse using proper labelling and segregation of items batch-wise.

  • Review certificate of compliance or certificate of analysis.

  • Inspect the condition of the material for cleanliness and free of infestation and contamination (e.g. dirt and water). 

  • Inspect seal and padlock for tampering to assure the integrity of the load.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve basic quality/ production issues involving products and materials and communicate corrective action results.

  • Track all non-conforming materials per the On Hold Program.

  • Maintains and ensures effective communication with all plant and departmental concerns.

  • Works as a team with other quality, production, supply chain, and safety personnel.

  • Develop raw materials and chemicals standards that align with Ethiopian and international standards.

  • Develop specific packaging material quality standards that align with Ethiopian and international standards. 

  • Ensuring raw materials and packaging material ingredients do not affect the environment.

  • Running trials to check the packaging material suitability and testing for performance under various conditions.

  • Evaluating, selecting and negotiating with suppliers.

  • Identifying and choosing products from suppliers.

  • Writing comprehensive trial reports.

  • Coordinate and perform physical, chemical and biological testing and inspection of the product and/or packaging and ingredients.

  • Receive and properly record the complaint details.

  • Analyse the issue and discuss with relevant parties to find a solution for the problem.

  • Prepare a corrective action plan and corrective action for the problem.

Job Requirements

BSC degree in Food Process Engineering/Technology, Food Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering & related fields. with a minimum of 2 years of experience in the brewing industry.
