Job Description

The Finance Supervisor/Coordinator will provide day-to-day supervision of all financial operations within the organization, focusing on construction projects in Ethiopia. Responsibilities include planning, prioritizing, assigning, supervising, and reviewing the work of finance staff. The role ensures compliance with company policies, federal and local regulations, and construction-specific financial standards. The Finance Supervisor/Coordinator also supports strategic financial decision-making, improves cost efficiency, and maintains accurate financial records for all construction projects

Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Management & Accounting

  • Supervise financial and accounting processes to ensure compliance with Ethiopian federal laws, company policies, and international construction finance standards.

  • Prepare, review, and distribute timely budget reports, cash flow statements, and financial statements to management and project teams.

  • Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash flow for construction projects, including contractor and supplier payments.

  • Perform regular account reconciliations and verify project expenditures against approved budgets.

  • Update the general ledger accurately and ensure completeness of project-related financial records.

  • Ensure all financial transactions are properly documented for audit and reference purposes.

Construction Project Finance Oversight

  • Track project budgets, costs, and progress, providing variance analysis and recommendations for cost efficiency.

  • Monitor subcontractor, supplier, and labor payments in accordance with contracts and project milestones.

  • Conduct cost analysis for construction materials, labor, and project overheads to identify savings opportunities.

  • Assist in forecasting and resource allocation for multiple concurrent construction projects.

  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure timely financial reporting, contract compliance, and risk mitigation.

Auditing & Compliance

  • Perform internal financial audits, reviewing construction project accounts, contracts, and procurement documentation.

  • Prepare audit reports and recommend corrective actions to the Finance Manager.

  • Ensure compliance with Ethiopian tax laws, labor laws, and regulatory reporting requirements for construction projects.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain best practices for financial controls in construction operations.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Provide supervision and mentorship to finance staff, set performance goals, and support professional development.

  • Train staff on construction-specific finance procedures, systems, and reporting requirements.

  • Review staff work to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.

Reporting & Stakeholder Communication

  • Prepare financial presentations for management, clients, and project stakeholders.

  • Address financial inquiries from internal teams, subcontractors, clients, and regulatory authorities.

  • Participate in strategic planning, annual budgeting, and project cost forecasting

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experience Required

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Management, Economics, or related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum 6 years of progressive experience in finance/accounting, with at least 1 year in a senior position.

  • Experience in construction finance or project-based accounting is highly desirable.

  • Experience with international construction companies or development projects in Ethiopia is a plus.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Advanced financial management and accounting skills.

  • Strong understanding of construction project accounting, cost control, and financial compliance in Ethiopia.

  • Ability to perform complex financial analyses, variance reporting, and forecasting.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficient in accounting software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Excel.
