Job Description

The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing and managing the daily accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy of financial data, and preparing key financial reports. This role involves maintaining the general ledger, performing complex reconciliations, and assisting in the preparation of financial statements. The Senior Accountant works closely with the finance team to ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal policies, and they play a key role in supporting month-end and year-end closing processes.

 Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Reporting:

    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

    • Ensure financial reports are accurate and comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)/International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

    • Assist in financial analysis and forecasting to support management decision-making.

  2. General Ledger Management:

    • Maintain the general ledger by posting and reviewing journal entries.

    • Perform month-end and year-end closing processes, including balance sheet reconciliations.

    • Ensure that all financial transactions are properly recorded and classified.

  3. Reconciliations:

    • Perform reconciliations for key accounts such as cash, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and inventory.

    • Perform periodic bank reconciliations.

    • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.

    • Ensure that intercompany transactions are properly reconciled and accounted for.

  4. Audit Support:

    • Coordinate with external auditors to ensure timely and accurate completion of audits.

    • Prepare supporting documentation for audits, ensuring compliance with internal controls and external regulations.

    • Implement audit recommendations to improve internal accounting processes.

  5. Tax and Compliance:

    • Assist in the preparation and filing of tax returns, including sales tax (VAT), Withholding tax, employee related tax, income tax, and other regulatory filings.

    • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including adherence to tax laws and accounting standards.

    • Keep up-to-date with changes in accounting and tax regulations and implement them as required.

  6. Accounts Payable and Receivable Oversight:

    • Oversee the accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring timely payments and collections.

    • Prepare routine payments especially for construction, material and service purchases.

    • Review and approve vendor payments, ensuring proper authorization and coding.

    • Support credit control processes and ensure the timely collection of outstanding receivables.

  7. Budgeting and Forecasting:

    • Assist in the development of annual budgets and periodic financial forecasts.

    • Assist in monitoring actual performance against the budget and provide variance analysis.

  8. Internal Controls:

    • Ensure that adequate internal controls are in place to safeguard the company’s assets.

    • Identify areas for process improvements and implement best practices in accounting operations.

    • Develop and update accounting policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and control.

  9. Team Leadership and Mentorship:

    • Supervise junior accounting staff and provide guidance on accounting principles and procedures.

    • Assist in training and development initiatives for the accounting team.

    • Foster a collaborative and productive team environment.

Job Requirements

 Education: MA/BA degree in Accounting or Finance & formal accounting designation is preferred.

Work Experience: 6 years of experience in accounting or finance, with a strong understanding of accounting principles. Prior experience in a supervisory or senior accounting role is preferred.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. Odoo) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP/IFRS and tax regulations.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

 Key Competencies:
