Job Description

Mother and Child Development Organization is a non-governmental, non-political, non-religious and non-profit making indigenous organization established to improve the livelihood of impoverished women and children directly working at the grass root level with the local communities to address their needs and to enhance sustainable development in Somali region and Ethiopia since 1997. 

Level 3:  the role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in country programs; or are visiting country programs; ore because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

The position holder will be involved in designing, implementing, and monitoring GBV prevention and response strategies within the project’s activities. The GBV coordinator will work closely with GBV staff ,project partners, community leaders, and local stakeholders to create a safe learning environment for all beneficiaries, particularly women and girls, who are at a heightened risk of gender-based violence.

Key Responsibilities

•    Develop and execute GBV prevention and response strategies.
•    Integrate GBV prevention measures into all project activities.
•    Conduct awareness campaigns on GBV, women’s rights, and gender equality.
•    Organize community sensitization campaigns to challenge harmful norms.
•    Ensure educational materials and training are gender-sensitive.
•    Establish referral pathways for GBV survivors (legal, health, psychosocial).
•    Provide psychological first aid and confidential survivor support.
•    Monitor GBV incidents and ensure timely, consent-based responses.
•    Train staff, community members, and stakeholders on GBV prevention and response.
•    Build capacity of teachers, facilitators, and leaders to support survivors.
•    Participate in GBV coordination meetings to align with national standards.
•    Develop monitoring tools and document GBV-related activities.
•    Submit regular reports to Program Manager.
•    Conduct risk assessments and recommend improvements.
•    Ensure safeguarding standards are upheld in all project activities.
•    Maintain confidentiality and dignity in handling GBV-related information

Job Requirements

Qualifications & Experience
•    University degree in Gender Studies, Social Work, Social Sciences, Health, or related field.
•    At least 5 years’ NGO experience, including 2+ years in a project coordinator role.
•    Strong experience managing the full program cycle (design, implementation, reporting, M&E, financial management).
•    Proven staff management, coaching, and leadership skills.
•    Technical expertise in FGM prevention, GBV case management, psychosocial support, and referral mechanisms.
•    Fluency in Somali and English (spoken and written).
•    Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Teams, Kobo Tool, and ODK.
•    Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
•    Commitment to MCDO values.
