Background

Global Women Empowerment Development, Ethiopia (GWEDE) envisions a future where the progressive pursuit of gender equality and empowerment is central to societal progress. Through integrated development and humanitarian programming, GWEDE aims to address both immediate needs and long-term structural inequalities.

GWEDE is currently implementing donor-funded humanitarian projects under the Ethiopia Humanitarian Fund (EHF) in partnership with the Partnership for Pastoralist Development Association (PAPDA) in the Somali Region. To ensure effective financial management and administration, GWEDE is seeking to recruit a qualified and committed Finance and Admin Officer.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Financial Management

  • Manage daily financial transactions, including cash, bank, and petty cash operations

  • Prepare, review, and process payment vouchers, ensuring complete documentation and proper authorization

  • Monitor and reconcile bank accounts and cash balances on a regular basis

  • Ensure all financial transactions comply with GWEDE financial policies, donor regulations, and applicable accounting standards

2. Budgeting and Expenditure Tracking

  • Assist in the preparation of organizational and project budgets

  • Monitor program expenditures against approved budgets and report variances in a timely manner

  • Support program teams in planning, forecasting, and controlling expenses

  • Provide guidance on cost efficiency and sound financial planning

3. Financial Reporting

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management and donors

  • Contribute to the preparation of financial sections of donor narrative and financial reports

  • Provide timely financial updates to management, including cash flow status and key financial issues

4. Compliance and Audit

  • Ensure strict adherence to internal controls, financial policies, and procedures

  • Support internal and external audits by providing required financial documents and explanations

  • Follow up on audit findings and ensure timely implementation of corrective actions

  • Maintain accurate, complete, and well-organized financial records and filing systems

5. Coordination and Capacity Building

  • Work closely with program, procurement, and logistics teams to ensure financial accountability

  • Train and support staff on financial procedures, controls, and donor compliance requirements

  • Assist in the development and continuous improvement of financial systems and processes

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Procurement, or a related field

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience, preferably with NGOs or donor-funded projects

  • Strong knowledge of financial management systems and procurement procedures

  • Familiarity with donor rules and regulations (experience with EHF is a strong asset)

  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word and Excel) and accounting software (Peachtree)

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
