The WASH Officer is the field-level position for WASH Program who work in the emergency affected communities and implementing the emergency WASH& any other related emergency rapid response activities. The position spends 80% of his/her time in the field travel and conducting gap assessment, identifying priority needs in the target communities through identifying potential WASH NFI, water supplies, sanitation and hygiene gaps together with communities, local government and leaders. Also conduct detail assessment on durable solution for water supply construction and rehabilitation spring, hand pump and pipeline expansion to water scheme. Mobilize the communities, ensure the quality and quantity of the planned WASH activities to be delivered accordingly.
Over all, the scope of the position is to do proper WASH response activities by using the project document based on WASH clusters guideline and SHEPHER standards appropriate in the context of the emergency, actively participate in the zonal/woreda WASH Clusters, rapid assessments, design the emergency water supply scheme such as hand pump, borehole, pipeline etc. and sanitation facilitiesconstruction/rehabilitation, targeting/verification and distribution of WASH NFI, undertake the Hygiene and Sanitation promotions, cash assistances in joint beneficiary selection/ verification, community mobilization, monitoring and evaluations of the project in the affected communities in Benishangul Gumuz, Guba Woreda project intervention.
The main objective of WASH Officer position is to successfully delivery the WASH project activities implementation that planned in the project, ensure community participation and local coordination with the objective of impact optimization.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Major/key responsibilities.
Conduct rapid assessment, detail assessment, and feasibility assessments at targeted areas using ZOA’s rapid Assessment tools of WASH Project
Organize data and information, Prepare and maintain records, documents and control plans for the monitoring of projects/ program implementation
Prepare bi weekly and monthly implementation works plans
Collect/record the Sanitation facilities, coverages data
Prepare the detail implementation plan for Hygiene campaigns, WASHEM, CLTSH, Sanitation Marketing, School hygiene and MHM interventions/activities as necessary and share to WASH Project manager and CO-technical advisor.
Prepare different guidelines, organize and provided trainings and follow up the cascade.
Supervise the implementation of the project following the established procedures and mechanisms for deployment of material to affected areas
Target beneficiaries, register and distribute the WASH NFI and MHM kits for the eligible beneficiaries as per the criteria.
Monitor and ensure proper management by water committees in Operation and maintenance
Develop WASH messages, disseminate the IEC/BCC materials using the steps and procedures with the local community contexts.
Organize, coordinate and support different WASH event celebrations in the host communities.
Organize and facilitate different monitoring and supervisions
Collect the beneficiary data, keep properly with data protection protocol and list the list of WASH NFI beneficiaries.
Work closely with the Woreda and Zonal Health and Women affair Offices of the region.
Support and facilitate the baseline, Mid and End WASH surveys together with the MEAL team.
Prepare monthly report and Submit to supervisor and technical team
Supervise, capacitate and conduct staff Performance evaluation under his/her supervision timely and constructively.
Take any additional responsibilities as requested his/her supervisor or by ZOA

Job Requirements
Degree or above in Environmental Health, Public health, Health education or related fields
At least 3 years of experience for Degree in managing WASH Project particularly Software part (Sanitation and Hygiene promotion) in the rural community/refugee and having good knowledge of WASH project management. NGO experience with both emergency and development is preferred
Experience of hygiene approaches like WASHEM, CLTSH, BCC/IEC and Sanitation Marketing will be an advantageous.
Good command of both spoken and written English and Amharic is must and local language of the area an advantages.
Other Requirements
Basic computer skills (office), Microsoft office, Excel, word
Experience of data analysis software (Epi-info and SPSS) is an asset.
Knowledge of surveys, community driven WASH interventions is an asset.
Ability to work as part of a team as well as to work autonomously when required
Experience of community mobilization, training facilitation particularly in emergency WASH is an asset
Good in team work, ability to work in hard to reach area and in high work load.
