The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) wants to recruit employees in the following vacant position the details of which are mentioned below.
The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) was established in 1935 and is one of the oldest and largest humanitarian organizations in Ethiopia. ERCS provides services to communities affected by natural and manmade disasters through the provision of emergency responses, ambulance and first aid, family reunification, essential drugs, water and sanitation, and other humanitarian services. ERCS also runs disaster risk reduction programs with the aim of creating resilience households and communities. Currently the ERCS has a structure consisting of 14 Regional Offices, Zonal Branches and District/Woreda Branches, Woreda Red Cross Committee and Kebele Red Cross committees.
ERCS also runs disaster risk reduction programs relating to food security, climate change adaptation, livelihood diversification, and institutional capacity building interventions, with the aim of creating resilience households and communities. ERCS works in partnership with the Ethiopian Government, International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC), International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), partnering National Societies, members, volunteers and the communities we serve.
Under the general supervision and guidance of the Disaster Risk Reduction director, the Migration & Restoring Family Links Program Manager plans, directs, coordinates and controls the overall Restoring Family Links operations of the Society; Manages and facilitates the preparation, approval, distribution and implementation of a national Migration & Restoring Family Links(M RFL) policy and procedure; The manager is responsible for the overall program/ project management which includes planning, coordinating, budgeting, implementation, provision of technical support for subordinates and branches, monitoring and evaluation, timely and quality reporting. He/she also facilitates partnership building with relevant stakeholders; follow up program/project activities and ensuring their completion within the timeline set, allocated budget, and with standard quality.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Formulate and advocate for comprehensive migration policies that align with national and international standards.
Engage in dialogue with policymakers to promote evidence-based approaches to migration management.
Conduct research on the socio-economic effects of migration and the needs of migrants.
Gather and analyze data on migration trends, patterns, and impacts to inform policy decisions and program development.
Develop programs to support the integration of migrants into host communities which may employment assistance, and social cohesion
Advocate for the protection of the rights of migrants, including refugees and asylum seekers, ensuring access to justice and protection from exploitation.
Organize training and workshops for government officials, NGOs, and community organizations on migration issues and best practices.
Strengthen the capacity of stakeholders to effectively manage migration and respond to the needs of migrants.
Coordinate responses to migration crises, including natural disasters and conflicts, ensuring the safety and well-being of affected populations.
Work to provide immediate assistance and long-term support to displaced individuals.
Raise awareness about the benefits and challenges of migration through campaigns, workshops, and community engagement.
Foster partnerships with international organizations, governments, and civil society to address migration challenges collaboratively.
Participate in cluster, national, sub regional, regional and global forums to share best practices and promote international dialogue on migration issues.
Facilitation of communication between separated family members through various means, including the use of Red Cross messages, Telephone etc.
Facilitation of emotional and psychological support to individuals and families affected by separation.
Creating collaboration and partnership with ICRC and Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, governmental bodies, and other humanitarian organizations to enhance the effectiveness of family reunification efforts.
Engages in advocacy to raise awareness about the importance of family unity and the challenges faced by separated families.
Promoting policies that support the rights of individuals to maintain family connections.
Training for staff and volunteers involved in RFL activities to ensure they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to assist affected individuals effectively.
Planning, preparing the budget, directing, coordinating and controlling the overall Migration and Restoring Family Links /MRFL/ programs/projects of the Society
Collecting and analyzing data related to family separation and reunification efforts, for the purpose of improving services and understanding the broader impact of conflicts and disasters on families.
Solicit funding for the NS’s Migration and RFL projects implementation from movement non movement partners, private sectors, local communities etc. and make sure the funds are utilized properly
Documents good practices, develop case studies, organize lessons sharing events and scale up the good practice for wider communities in the area of Migration and Restoring Family Links
Makes efforts that upgrade the level and quality of migration and RFL services of the Society; assesses capacity gaps of migration and tracing personnel and priority branches, designs and administers capacity building
schemes, monitors and evaluates the impact of the tracing capacity development efforts.
Promote innovative practices that improve the livelihood of potential migrant/returnees; Promoting innovation, livelihood diversification and action research on RFL and Migration programs/projects;
Job Requirement:
Second/ First Degree in the field of Sociology and social anthropology, social work, psychology, demography, International, Law, DRM, Development studies, Project Management, Political science and International Relations and
8/10 years’ relevant work experience out of which 4/6 years in managerial position in the area of humanitarian assistance, migrant and returnee assistance, refugee and Asylum seekers and IDP assistance.
