The Medical Director will serve as the head of the clinical wing, ensuring high standards of clinical service delivery, medical governance, and regulatory compliance. The role involves overseeing clinical departments, leading quality improvement initiatives, coordinating with hospital management, and providing clinical services.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Clinical Leadership & Governance
Provide strategic direction and leadership for all clinical departments.
Ensure high-quality, evidence-based, and patient-centered care across the hospital.
Develop, update, and enforce clinical protocols, guidelines, and standards.
Lead morbidity and mortality reviews, clinical audits, and risk management activities.
Monitor and evaluate clinical performance indicators regularly.
Operational Management
Oversee daily clinical operations to ensure efficiency and continuity of services.
Coordinate with department heads to ensure optimal staffing, workflow, and resource utilization.
Work closely with hospital administration to align clinical and operational priorities.
Participate in the preparation and execution of annual plans, budgets, and performance targets.
Support procurement planning for medical equipment, supplies, and pharmaceuticals.
Staff Supervision & Development
Provide leadership, mentorship, and professional guidance to medical staff.
Conduct performance evaluations and support capacity-building initiatives.
Facilitate training programs and skill-enhancement workshops.
Address clinical staff concerns, conflicts, and disciplinary matters appropriately.
Clinical Practice (Partial Engagement)
Provide direct patient care as necessary
Maintain high ethical standards and demonstrate exemplary clinical decision-making.
Serve as a role model for clinical excellence.
Compliance, Reporting & External Relations
Ensure compliance with national healthcare regulations and standards.
Prepare and submit periodic clinical performance reports to hospital leadership.
Liaise with regional health authorities, professional bodies, and partner organizations.
Lead hospital preparedness and response efforts for emergencies and outbreaks.
Job Requirements
Medical Doctor (MD) degree from a recognized institution.
Valid professional license to practice in Ethiopia.
Minimum of 2 years clinical experience as general practitioner (GP), including at least 1-year in a leadership or managerial role as MD, dep’t head, etc .
Postgraduate specialization in MPH or MBA is strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge of healthcare management, quality assurance, and clinical governance.
Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
Desirable Competencies
Experience working in a private or multi-specialty hospital.
Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
Commitment to patient safety and continuous quality improvement.
