Plan, organize, supervise, and coordinate the daily implementation of nursing activities under the guidance of the NAM, ensuring full adherence to MSF nursing protocols, standards, and procedures, with a particular focus on neonatal, maternal, and child health within the Tigray context. Support the start-up and operationalization of neonatal services in alignment with MSF values, policies, and universal health standards, and contribute to continuous quality improvement within the department and outreach services.
Duties and Responsibilities
Carry out the functions and tasks associated to his/her speciality, i.e. perform as a nurse Team Supervisor /Nurse, whenever required or needed, in order to optimize the resources, contributing with his/her knowledge and experience.
Implement all the protocols and hygiene procedures, and supervise his/her team follow the same standards, in order to warrant the quality of the care and service in his/her speciality.
Organize and coordinate the activities of his/her team (week’s schedule, annual leave, absences, etc.), evaluate their performance and define and ensure the needs for training of staff, in order to ensure the coverage of the human resources needs and maintain high standards of quality.
Carry out and/or supervise the ( decentralized) pharmacy and medical equipment management (drugs orders, follow-up of the stock, storage conditions, inventories, follow-up of expired drugs and their destruction, drugs consumption, etc.)in his or her department, in order to satisfy the needs of material with efficiency and effectiveness.
Carry-out and/or coordinate administrative (exit-paper, transfer-paper, etc.), information and data collection (patient files, forms, statistics, etc.) tasks, and elaborate regular reporting, in order to have updated and reliable information about the day-to-day activity in the project, output/ outcome and support decision-taking.
Give feedback/ reports to medical focal point.
MSF Section/Context-Specific Accountabilities
Support the NAM in translating medical strategies into operational nursing plans in the hospital NICU, outreach facilities (PHCC, HP).
Coordinate the day-to-day activities of nursing staff, including task allocation, schedules, shift management, and coverage for emergency needs.
Ensure nursing procedures and protocols (e.g., Zero Separation, KMC, breastfeeding, maternal nutrition) are consistently applied.
Supervise nursing staff to ensure compliance with MSF and MOH clinical and administrative standards.
Support performance management of nursing staff, including mentoring, coaching, training, and bedside teaching.
Identify individual and team training needs in collaboration with NAM and departmental heads; organize or facilitate trainings and workshops.
Promote teamwork, professional development, and adherence to MSF values.
Support the NAM in identifying medical and nursing needs in the post-conflict context, including maternal and neonatal health, malnutrition, mental health.
Contribute to mapping and understanding cultural, religious, and community practices that may impact neonatal and maternal care.
Ensure proper implementation of co-management strategies at departmental level, including participation in meetings, follow-ups, and collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
Lead and supervise Person-Centered Care approaches in all nursing activities, ensuring family-centered and community-centered care principles are applied.
Collaborate with SRH/Midwife teams to ensure integrated maternal and neonatal care across hospital and outreach activities.
Support IPC initiatives under the guidance of NAM and IPC supervisor; ensure proper infection prevention and control practices in all nursing activities.
Report regularly to the NAM on nursing activity status, challenges, and progress.
Support coordination with MoH staff, logistics, pharmacy, laboratory, and biomedical teams for smooth nursing operations.

Starting gross salary : USD 1210 (One Thousand Two Hundred Ten US Dollars)

Job Requirements
Education: Diploma or Degree in Nursing or equivalent degree with a valid professional practicing license is essential. A specialty in neonates or pediatrics will be an asset.
Experience: Essential: 2 years of previous experience as a neonatal nurse or in NICU and 1 year of supervisory experience. Experience working with MSF or other NGOs, particularly in developing countries, is desirable.
Languages: Mission language and local language essential.
