The Self-Contained Teacher for KG is pivotal in creating a holistic and engaging learning experience, guiding children through their earliest formal education with individualized and developmentally appropriate instruction.

The Learning/Teaching Assistant plays a key role in supporting high-quality teaching and learning within the Pearson Curriculum environment. The primary responsibility is to assist the Class Teacher in delivering effective instruction, maintaining a structured and positive classroom atmosphere, and supporting pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development in alignment with the school’s standards and policies and make sure students are acquiring the required knowledge, skills and show progress both in academics and wholistic development.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Instructional Support

  • Support the Class Teacher in delivering lessons aligned with the Pearson Curriculum across core and foundation subjects.

  • Facilitate guided reading, literacy support, and targeted numeracy interventions.

  • Work with individual pupils and small groups to reinforce learning objectives and help close attainment gaps.

  • Assist in differentiating tasks and materials to meet the needs of diverse learners, including EAL and SEN students.

  • Support the use of assessment for learning (AFL) strategies to monitor pupil progress.

2. Classroom Management

  • Contribute to a safe, organised, and respectful learning environment by reinforcing routines and behaviour expectations.

  • Assist in implementing the school’s behaviour management policies and pastoral care guidelines.

  • Supervise pupils during non-instructional times, including transitions, breaks, lunch periods, and field trips.

3. Student Support

  • Provide academic guidance and emotional reassurance to promote pupils’ confidence, independence, and well-being.

  • Support pupils in developing effective study habits, organisation, and responsible behaviour.

  • Help identify individual learning needs and provide appropriate support under teacher direction.

4. Administrative & Operational Duties

  • Prepare learning resources, classroom materials, and visual displays that enhance the educational environment.

  • Assist with marking routine tasks, updating pupil records, and documenting observations, as directed by the Class Teacher.

  • Support the integration of digital tools and educational technologies in the classroom.

  • Contribute to the organisation of school events, curricular activities, and educational visits.

5. Collaboration & Professional Conduct

  • Maintain open, professional communication with the Class Teacher, colleagues, and school leadership.

  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and school training as required.

  • Uphold all safeguarding, child protection, and confidentiality protocols.

  • Represent the school’s values with professionalism, respect, and cultural sensitivity

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in any field qualification.

  • Prior experience supporting teaching and learning in private school is requires. Having an experience in an international school is a plus.

  • Strong command of written and spoken English and Amharic

  • Understanding of primary pedagogy, child development, and inclusive education practices.

Preferred Skills & Competencies

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multicultural school community.

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to support pupils with EAL and SEN needs using appropriate strategies.

  • experienced in using digital learning platforms and classroom technology.

  • Positive, adaptable, and proactive approach to supporting classroom needs.
