We are seeking an accomplished and highly motivated Electrical Engineer with a minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in industrial electrical systems, maintenance, and automation. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all electrical infrastructure, control systems, and power distribution networks within our large-scale salt production facility. This role requires a strong understanding of industrial electrical standards, PLC programming, and a proactive approach to troubleshooting and preventative maintenance. The ability to work effectively and contribute within the unique operational environment of the Afar region is essential.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Manage, maintain, and troubleshoot all electrical systems and equipment, including power generation, distribution (MV/LV), motor control centers (MCCs), transformers, and lighting systems.

• Develop, implement, and optimize preventive and predictive maintenance programs for electrical assets to minimize downtime and ensure continuous operation.

•Diagnose complex electrical faults, perform root cause analysis, and implement robust corrective and preventive actions.

• Program, maintain, and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs), and SCADA systems for process control and automation.

• Oversee and execute the installation, calibration, and repair of instrumentation and control devices (sensors, transmitters, actuators).

• Ensure strict compliance with all national and international electrical safety standards, codes, and company policies.

• Collaborate with mechanical, production, and other departments to resolve operational issues and optimize plant efficiency.

• Manage spare parts inventory for electrical components, ensuring critical parts availability and cost-effective procurement.

• Contribute to new electrical installations, system upgrades, and capital projects from design to commissioning.

• Train and mentor electrical technicians and junior staff, fostering a culture of safety and technical competence.

• Maintain accurate electrical documentation, drawings, and schematics.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical & Computer Engineering from a recognized institution.

• Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in industrial electrical engineering roles, with a strong focus on maintenance, automation, and power distribution within a heavy manufacturing, processing plant, mining, or similar continuous operation environment.

•Proven expertise in PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley), HMI/SCADA development, and industrial communication protocols.

• Strong knowledge of medium and low voltage power systems, motor control circuits, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and switchgear.

• Demonstrated ability to perform electrical troubleshooting, fault diagnosis, and root cause analysis effectively.

• Familiarity with relevant electrical codes and standards (e.g., IEC, NFPA).

• Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) is advantageous.

• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.

•Strong leadership, communication, and teamwork abilities, with experience mentoring technical staff.

• Willingness and ability to live and work long-term in the Afar region (Semera City). Adaptation to the local environment and climate is essential.

• Fluency in Amharic and English (both written and spoken) is required. Knowledge of Afar language is a plus.
