We are seeking an accomplished and highly motivated Mechanical Engineer with a minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in industrial maintenance. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the optimal functioning, reliability, and efficiency of all mechanical equipment and systems within our large-scale salt production facility. This position requires a proactive approach to maintenance, strong problem-solving skills, and a commitment to operational excellence in a challenging industrial environment. The ability to thrive and contribute effectively within the unique context of the Afar region is essential.

Duties & Responsibilities:

•   Lead and manage all aspects of mechanical maintenance for a large-scale salt processing plant, including crushers, conveyors, dryers, packaging machinery, pumps, valves, and utility systems.

•   Develop, implement, and monitor preventive and predictive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan.

•   Diagnose complex mechanical failures, troubleshoot root causes, and implement effective corrective actions promptly.

•   Oversee and execute repairs, overhauls, and installations of mechanical equipment, ensuring adherence to safety standards and engineering best practices.

•   Manage spare parts inventory, optimize procurement, and ensure the availability of critical components.

•   Train and mentor junior technicians and maintenance staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and safety.

•   Collaborate closely with production, electrical, and other departments to optimize plant performance and resolve inter-departmental issues.

•   Contribute to capital projects, equipment upgrades, and process improvement initiatives from a mechanical engineering perspective.

•   Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies.

•   Prepare detailed maintenance reports, analyze performance data, and recommend improvements.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications & Experience:

•   Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution.

•   Minimum of 8 years of practical experience in industrial maintenance, preferably within a heavy manufacturing, processing, mining, or similar continuous operation environment. 

•   Proven expertise in preventive maintenance (PM), predictive maintenance (PdM), and root cause analysis (RCA).

•   Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, rotating equipment, gearboxes, pumps, and conveyor systems.

•   Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and maintenance manuals.

•   Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).

•   Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.

•   Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a diverse team.

•   Willingness and ability to live and work long-term in the Afar region ( Semera City). Understanding of the local context and climate is an asset.

•   Fluency in Amharic and English is required.
