Our School Nurse plays a critical role in maintaining and promoting the physical health and safety of our students and staff, ensuring a safe, healthy learning environment.

The School Nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive health care services to students and staff, including first aid, health assessments, management of chronic conditions, and health education. The Nurse acts as a frontline health professional within the school, collaborating closely with parents, teachers, and external health providers to support student well-being.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Student Health Care & First Aid

  • Provide immediate first aid and emergency care for injuries and illnesses occurring on campus.

  • Manage and monitor chronic health conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes) and administer prescribed medications safely.

  • Maintain confidential health records and documentation for each student.

2. Health Assessments & Screenings

  • Conduct routine health screenings such as vision, hearing, and growth monitoring.

  • Identify and refer students with health concerns to appropriate medical professionals or specialists.

  • Support immunization programs in coordination with local health authorities.

3. Health Education & Promotion

  • Develop and deliver health education programs and workshops for students, staff, and parents on topics such as hygiene, nutrition, mental health, and disease prevention.

  • Promote healthy lifestyle practices within the school community.

4. Emergency Preparedness & Safety

  • Develop and implement health-related policies, protocols, and emergency procedures in collaboration with school leadership.

  • Maintain and manage medical supplies and equipment in the school clinic.

  • Train staff and students on basic first aid, CPR, and health safety practices.

5. Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with teachers, counselors, and parents to support students’ health needs and facilitate appropriate accommodations.

  • Liaise with local health agencies and medical providers to coordinate care and health services.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma or degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.

  • Current valid nursing license or certification to practice in Ethiopia.

  • Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably with pediatric or school health focus.

  • Knowledge of basic first aid, emergency care, and health screening procedures.

  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience working in school or community health settings.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, and staff.

  • Compassionate, patient, and able to handle sensitive health situations with discretion.

  • Familiarity with international school health standards and protocols.

  • Proficiency in English and Amharic preferred.
