Position title: Social Worker
Required No. for position: (01)
Duty Station: Gambella Region base in Wantowa and Makuey Woreda.

Key Responsibility’s : 

Psychosocial Support & Counseling 

  • Provide individual and group counseling sessions to refugees and host community members, with a focus on women, children, and survivors of trauma. 

  • Facilitate safe spaces for children and women to express emotions and receive psychosocial care. 

  • Identify cases requiring specialized mental health referral and coordinate with appropriate service providers. 

  • Community Engagement 

  • Conduct awareness sessions on stress management, coping mechanisms, and child protection for both refugees and host communities. 

  • Strengthen community-based support networks and peer groups to enhance resilience and social cohesion. 

  • Collaborate with refugee leaders, host community representatives, women’s groups, and youth networks to promote psychosocial wellbeing. 

Case Management 

  • Assess psychosocial needs of vulnerable individuals across refugee and host populations and develop tailored support plans. 

  • Document cases confidentially and ensure timely follow-up. 

  • Work closely with protection, health, and education teams to provide integrated support. 

  • Capacity Building 

  • Train community volunteers and staff from both refugee and host communities on basic psychosocial support and referral pathways. 

  • Support awareness campaigns on gender-based violence (GBV), child protection, and trauma recovery. 

Monitoring & Reporting 

  • Maintain accurate records of activities, sessions, and referrals. 

  • Prepare regular reports highlighting challenges, achievements, and recommendations. 

  • Contribute to project evaluations and learning exercises. 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related field

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in psychosocial support, preferably in humanitarian or refugee/host community settings.

  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed care, child protection, and GBV response.

  • Experience working with displaced populations and vulnerable host communities.

  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure in challenging field conditions.

  • Fluency in English required; knowledge of Nuer, Anuak, or Arabic is an asset.

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in psychosocial support, preferably in humanitarian or refugee/host community settings

  • Renewed License required
