Habesha Steel Mills PLC is seeking a competent, proactive, and safety-driven Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental (OHSE) Officer to ensure the effective implementation of occupational health, safety, and environmental management systems. The role is critical in maintaining legal compliance, minimizing workplace risks, and fostering a strong safety culture across the organization.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and monitor Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental (OHSE) policies, procedures, and programs.

• Ensure compliance with Ethiopian labor laws, environmental regulations, and company standards.

• Conduct regular workplace inspections, hazard identification, risk assessments, and safety audits.

• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses; prepare reports and recommend corrective and preventive actions.

• Organize and deliver OHSE trainings, safety inductions, and toolbox talks.

• Monitor proper usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safety signage.

• Oversee environmental aspects including waste management, emissions, and hazardous material handling.

• Maintain accurate OHSE records, statistics, and reports.

• Coordinate with government regulatory bodies and external auditors on OHSE matters.

• Support continuous improvement initiatives in health, safety, and environmental performance.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Engineering, or related disciplines.

• 0–5 year’s relevant experience, preferably in manufacturing or industrial environments (steel or heavy industry experience is an advantage).

• Sound knowledge of Ethiopian OHSE laws, directives, and best practices.

• Strong communication, reporting, and training skills.

• Proficiency in MS Office applications

• Good command of English; knowledge of Afaan Oromo and/or Amharic is an advantage
