Job Title: Nutrition Expert
Report to: Area Manager
Duty Station: Borena Zone, Oromia Region
Contract Period: Eight months
The Overall role of the Nutrition Expert is to implement the nutrition component of the humanitarian response project. He/she will be responsible in strengthening the emergency nutrition response at both woredas – Arero and Dhas and closely working with the ‘protection’ sector teams and Government counterparts to comprehensively respond to health aspect of vulnerable population.
The role is inclusive of preparation of woreda based nutrition intervention work plan for the duration of the project, request budget and follow-up its proper financial utilization in closely working with the Project Coordinator. He/she is expected to participate in woreda-led DRM nutrition focused meetings and produce weekly/monthly and quarterly based progress reports to the immediate supervisor. The role will have supervisory roles with MHNT staff members and in parallel, there will be functional level of engagement with the Nutrition Lead based at country office level.
The Nutrition expert is responsible for overall planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of the emergency nutrition response project in close collaboration and coordination with the Nutrition projects coordinator, partners and relevant stakeholders.
Periodic field visit is required to the project sites and provide formal and informal feedback to project staff and partners
Responsible for proper management of human and logistics, financial resources efficiently and effectively for the realization of the project objective – at both sites (Arero & Dhas).
Provide technical and supervisory support to the MHNT team and facilitate/supervise/monitor the service delivery by the team.
Produce quality weekly, monthly and quarterly statistical report and share with head office and relevant stakeholders.
Establish strong partnership relations with the government, community and other stakeholders and regularly monitor the performance result of the relation through productive review meetings and joint field monitoring.
Conduct initial institutional mapping and capacity assessment of primary health and nutrition service status in the target IDP sites and other community structure related to the service provision.
Facilitate the mainstreaming of child protection, gender and GBV with the ‘protection sector’ team , during project implementation and monitoring.
Identify lesson learned and potential best practices and incorporate in the next action plan.
Participate in monthly regional emergency task force meetings and work closely with relevant partners and government stakeholders to create a functional referral pathway.
Ensure effective program service coverage and service integrated in the existing primary health care unit level.
Facilitate the engagement of MHNT team in nutrition screening campaigns led by the Government, strengthen the nutrition and health surveillance and emergency response capacity of the woreda health office.
Bachelor / MPH in Nutrition has at least 5 years of practical experience in managing projects/programs related to Emergency Nutrition.
Demonstrated leadership ability to inspire and empower others.
Demonstrated technical and coordination ability, sound judgment, ability to interact and work effectively with others at all levels.
Organize and accurately completes multiple tasks by establishing priorities while taking into consideration special assignments, tight deadlines, available resources.
Establishes, builds and maintains effective working relationships with staff and partner organizations to facilitate the provision of timely response and support.
Proficiency in verbal and written English, Amharic as well as the local language, Afan Oromo is mandatory.
