Job Description

Mary Joy Ethiopia is a non-profit, development-oriented organization with over 28 years of experience dedicated to bringing long-lasting improvements in the lives of the communities it serves. The MJE’s program focuses on livelihood enhancement, Education, Health, and institutional sustainability with cross-cutting issues of Environmental Protection, HIV/AIDS, Gender Mainstreaming, inclusiveness, and child protection. 

MJE is currently awaiting anticipated support from the U.S. Department of State for a proposed Family-Focused HIV Prevention, Care, and Treatment Project to be implemented in Central Ethiopia, Sidama, Southern Ethiopia, and Southwestern Ethiopia regions. Once approved, the Project aims to contribute to achieving Ethiopia’s “three 95” global HIV targets.

The Knowledge Management Specialist is responsible for creating, organizing, and managing MJE’s FFHPCT Project information and data systems. He/she will provide data quality improvement and use support to MJE and sub-recipient organization staff. He/she will also assist with data use for quality improvement and design quality improvement strategies and plans, and lead their implementation. He/she will support MJE and Local Implementing Partners (LIPs) to produce quality knowledge management products such as abstracts, manuscripts, and success stories.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the MERL Director to produce quality monthly FFHPCT Project success stories, abstracts, manuscripts, and best practices.    

  • Working closely with the MEAL Specialist to ensure the quality of data generated for decision-making. 

  • Train Project staff on the use and benefits of the knowledge management system, data quality, and information use.

  • Working closely with the LIPs staff to ensure all designed QI projects are producing the required results.

  • Monitor and assist partners in the data cleaning and data modification process to ensure the quality of key MER and Custom indicators data.

  • Assist the MERL directors in the design and development of electronic data management tools (Kobo and CommCare) for field data collection.  

  • Working closely with the MEAL Specialist to ensure that all data quality, cleaning, and modification issues are properly resolved.

  • Closely works with Local Implementation Partners staff to identify user requirements for the enhancement of the CommCare application.

  • Compile and submit weekly data quality, cleaning, and modification reports and submit to the MERL Director.   

  • Conduct action research to identify the factors that affect real-time data entry, data quality, and information use practices at the LIP level.   

  • Actively participate in the documentation of experiences, lessons learned, case studies, and other technical documents related to the CommCare Application and UDS dashboard.  

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Immediate Supervisor.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION/TRAINING/ WORK EXPERIENCES

  • MPH/MSc in Public Health, MSc/MPH in Epidemiology, Global Health

  • Minimum of six years of progressively responsible professional experience in a performance monitoring and/or evaluation role 

TECHNICAL AND OTHER SKILLS 

  • Attention to detail and analytical skill;

  • Proficiency in English, both verbal and written;

  • Utilizing programming and statistical software (such as SPSS or STATA).  

  • Practical skill in digital data collection tools such as Kobo or CommCare.

  • Good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
