Job Description

The role involves mobilising men and women in selected villages to lead community-wide initiatives that address the negative impacts of climate change. The facilitator will support the adoption of good practices in water management, hygiene and sanitation, fuel-efficient stoves, and farm- and village-level agroecology. In addition, the role includes promoting gender-transformative, inclusive approaches by influencing traditional values and norms toward greater gender equality.

The successful candidate will work directly with households, members of women collectives, village development structures, including traditional authorities, and government staff in the target kebeles. The position reports to the Project Officer. The duty station is Kotoba field office, located about fifty kilometers from Ginchi or Ambo towns.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strengthen village and kebele institutions to plan, implement, and evaluate business, climate resilience, and gender-transformative initiatives.

  • Deliver structured training, coaching, and learning sessions to enhance gender awareness, business skills, and community development practices.

  • Mobilise communities to adopt water management, hygiene and sanitation practices, fuel-efficient stoves, and agroecological practices at farm and village levels.

  • Influence traditional values and norms to promote inclusive and gender-equality approaches.

  • Facilitate participatory decision-making among community groups, traditional authorities, and government actors to ensure inclusive development.

  • Support community-based monitoring, documentation, and communication of progress, lessons, and promising practices.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in development studies, community development, gender or related field.

  • Minimum two years of experience working with rural communities and women’s groups.

  • Proficiency in English, Afaan Oromo, and Amharic both spoken and written.

  • Strong technical, facilitation, coaching, communication, and learning skills.

  • Ability to ride a motorcycle.

  • Willingness to reside in rural areas and carry out work from those locations.
