Job Description

Alliance of Knowledge and Action for Sustainable Livelihood Management Association (AKAM) is a local NGO dedicated to enabling resource poor rural households, with a particular focus on women, to achieve stronger livelihoods, improved food and nutrition security, enhanced climate resilience, and greater gender equality and ecological health. AKAM is currently seeking qualified professionals to join its new project the will be implemented from December 2025- December 2029 in Ambo, Dendi, Dawo and Woliso woredas of the Oromia Region with the fund obtained from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and Welthaus Bielefeld e.V, Germany.  AKAM strongly encourages females to apply.

The role focuses on supporting households and community groups to adopt fuel-efficient cookstoves and improved water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) practices. The successful candidate will work directly with households, members of women’s collectives, village development structures, traditional authorities, and government staff in the target kebeles. The facilitator will provide training, coaching, and technical support to improve household energy efficiency, safe water access, and hygiene behaviors. The position reports to the Project Officer, with the duty station at Kotoba field office, approximately fifty kilometers from Ginchi or Ambo towns.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide training, coaching, and technical support for women to adopt improved household energy, safe water handling, personal hygiene, and sanitation and food hygiene/nutrition practices.

  • Support planning, installation, and effective operation of water supply schemes and local production of fuel efficient cookstoves.

  • Molise community-led events, demonstrations, and participatory learning on good behaviors.

  • Monitor adoption and proper use of fuel-efficient stoves, water access, and hygiene behavior changes.

  • Promote clean cooking and food hygiene/nutrition practices

  • Lead monitoring, documentation, and reporting of progress, lessons learned, and best practices.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health, WASH, Energy, or related field.

  • Minimum two years of experience in climate-smart agriculture, soil fertility, and agroforestry practices.

  • Willingness to reside in rural areas and carry out work from those locations.

  • Proficiency in English, Afaan Oromo, and Amharic both spoken and written.

  • Strong technical, facilitation, coaching, communication, and learning skills.

  • Ability to ride a motorcycle.E
