People in Need is a non-governmental, non-profit organization founded on the ideals of humanity, freedom, equality and solidarity. 

People in Need was established in 1992 by a group of Czech war correspondents, journalists and activists and has grown to become one of the largest non-profit organization in Central and Eastern Europe. 

Throughout our 30 years of existence, People in Need continues to engage in humanitarian aid, development cooperation, education and social inclusion. 

We have been operating in Ethiopia since 2003, working in Five regions; Oromia, Central Ethiopia, South Ethiopia, Sidama and Tigray in different multi sectoral projects in the areas of development and emergency response. 

People in Need, from the very start of its operations in Ethiopia, has focused on projects in five main areas of interest: Education, Agriculture, Climate and Environment, Water and Social protection.

Length of Contract: 3 months

Number required: 1 (one)

Salary: 1020 USD

Place of Work: - Based in Addis Ababa with frequent field travel within PIN intervention areas. 
Reports to: Deputy Country Director.
Job Summary:

Background

People in Need (PIN) is in the process of strengthening child protection integration and mainstreaming across sectoral interventions. To support high-quality program design, evidence-based risk analysis, and effective coordination with partners, the organization requires short-term technical support from a child protection specialist.

Purpose of the position

The objective of this assignment is to provide technical expertise to lead and design child protection programming and mainstreaming approaches, conduct protection risk assessments, coordinate with partners, and contribute to the development of a strong, coherent project proposal. The specialist will ensure that child protection principles, safeguarding standards, and risk mitigation measures are fully integrated into programmatic planning and documentation.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Program Design and Proposal Support

  • Support the development of needs assessments and the analysis of findings, with a focus on protection mainstreaming and GESI considerations.

  • Support the development of child protection mainstreaming strategies in education and other sectoral programming.

  • Contribute to the design of child protection activities and interventions.

  • Support drafting and quality assurance in proposal design related to child protection, safeguarding, and protection risk mitigation, including narrative, logical frameworks, and budgeting.

  • Ensure activity design and mainstreaming measures adhere to global minimum standards and are resourced appropriately.

Partner Coordination and Capacity Assessment

  • Coordinate with relevant partners to map existing capacities, programming, and resources in child protection programming and mainstreaming.

  • Support capacity assessments of partners to inform program design and identify technical support needs.

Protection Risk Assessment and Mitigation

  • Lead protection risk assessments relevant to proposed interventions.

  • Recommend and design appropriate mitigation measures and monitoring mechanisms to integrate into programmatic planning.

ACCOUNCOUNTABILITY AND SAFEGUARDING including Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (SEAH)

  • Carry out the duties in accordance with the PIN Code of Conduct and Key policies.

  • Participate in training and awareness raising (CoC and KP, Safeguarding…).

  • Implement Safeguarding measures throughout the project cycle including a risk analysis related to SEAH and Child protection for each project and develop a mitigation plan accordingly.

  • Ensure that his/her team members attend training and awareness sessions and carry out the duties in accordance with PIN Code of Conduct and Key policies. 

  • Ensure that due diligence and/or capacity assessments of partners include an assessment of partners’ implementation of key safeguarding and risk policies/ procedure including the prevention of SEAH.  

  • Create and maintain a fulfilling and protective environment.

  • The Employee is obligated not to purvey any information concerning any of PIN activities to outsiders (including former PIN employees, who may no more be informed about current process in PIN).

  • PIN is a relief and development organization whose aim is to help and assist needy people. The Employee’s position within the institution requires contacts with outside; he or she therefore conveys a certain image of the PIN. PIN expects its Employees to behave in appropriate manners at all times and in all places. All members of staff should ensure their attitudes correspond to PIN principles, both during and after working hours.

  • The Employee takes over the responsibility for all entrusted material or cash. The Employee is obligated to cover all damages or losses caused by his carelessness. The Agreement of Liability of Assets has been signed separately.

Job Requirements

Skill and Experience 

  • Advanced degree or professional experience in Child Protection, Protection in Humanitarian Action, Social Work, or related field.

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in developing and managing humanitarian child protection programming and mainstreaming.

  • Experience in multi-sectorial proposal writing for complex donors.

  • Experience conducting protection risk assessments and designing mitigation strategies.

  • Experience working with partners and in multi-stakeholder coordination.

  • Sensitivity and demonstrated knowledge of cultural and gender issues.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and relevant languages in PIN area of implementation.

  • Good knowledge of the principles of protection of sensitive data.

  • Strong analytical, proposal writing, and communication skills.
