Transport Manager is responsible for the strategic planning, execution, and oversight of all transport and logistics activities related to the movement of coal from the mine face to the processing plant, storage yard, and ultimate point of delivery. This role is paramount to ensuring safe, continuous, and cost-effective material flow while maximizing equipment utilization and compliance.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Fleet & Operations Management

• Manage and optimize the heavy trucks (e.g., heavy trucks, Excavators, Loaders, light vehicles) used for overburden removal and coal transport within the mine site.

• Develop and manage the shift-by-shift transportation schedules, routing, and loading/unloading processes to minimize cycle times and maximize production throughput.

• Oversee the maintenance scheduling and availability of the transport fleet, collaborating closely with the Maintenance department to ensure high asset uptime.

• Implement real-time tracking and monitoring systems (GPS, Telematics) to monitor vehicle performance, fuel consumption, and driver behaviour.

Logistics Strategy & Third-Party Management

• Plan and execute the outbound logistics for the final product, which may include managing contracts for rail transport, road haulage, or port operations/shipping.

• Manage inventory at external logistics points (e.g., rail sidings, stockpiles) and reconcile quantities with production output and sales orders.

Safety and Compliance

• Ensure rigorous compliance with all local transportation, road safety, and mining safety regulations 

• Develop and enforce mandatory driver training, fatigue management programs, and vehicle pre-trip inspection protocols.

• Investigate all transport-related incidents and accidents, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Financial Management & Efficiency

• Manage the transport department's operational budget, focusing on controlling fuel costs, maintenance expenses, and labor costs per ton of coal moved.

• Conduct continuous analysis of transportation costs per unit and identify opportunities for optimization through technology, route changes, or fleet configuration.

• Manage fuel procurement, storage, and reconciliation for the entire mining fleet.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Transportation Management, Engineering, Mining, or a related field.

• Minimum of 8 years of experience in heavy industrial transportation or logistics management, with at least 4 years specifically in leadership role.
