Wide Horizons for Children (WHFC) is a child-focused, family empowering international humanitarian and development organization dedicated to the well-being of orphaned and vulnerable children. We achieve our mission through a holistic Family Preservation Approach that prioritizes sustainable resource management, robust quality assurance, and the diligent development and sharing of success stories to amplify our impact.
We are seeking a dynamic and highly organized Economic Empowerment Program Officer to play a crucial role in the development, designing and implementing the WHFC Ethiopia Family Preservation Program's Economic Empowerment initiatives, aimed at supporting families to achieve sustainable economic stability and resilience.

The Economic Empowerment Programs Officer is primarily responsible for the expert development, design, planning, coordination, implementation, and Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) of the Economic Empowerment component within WHFC's Family Preservation Program. This crucial role ensures high-quality, impactful assistance across the entire program lifecycle of WHFC’s Family Preservation initiatives. This includes, initiating new program ideas, designing and executing innovative economic empowerment interventions targeting mothers/guardians and youth. Leading capacity development efforts related to WHFC's Economic Empowerment activities.  Facilitating the seamless integration of Economic Empowerment activities with complementary interventions, including Education, Health & Sanitation, and Psychosocial Support, to achieve holistic family well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the design, planning, and execution of livelihood and economic empowerment interventions.

• Conduct needs assessments, market analyses, and SHG/IGA capacity evaluations.

• Provide technical support and capacity-building training to program teams, SHGs, and caregivers.

• Ensure proper monitoring, documentation, reporting, and data-driven improvement of interventions.

• Strengthen partnerships with government, private sector, and community structures.

Job Requirements

Qualification and Experience:

  • Masters or BA/BSC degree in Economics, Business Administration, or other related fields. 

  • Minimum of 8 Years of experience with BA/BSC and 4 Years of experience with MA/MSC, in implementing and coordinating Economic Empowerment/livelihoods programs or projects, 

  • At least 3 years work experience in NGO environment or development related field, preferably in a child-focused and family support program context.

  • Experience in project management, including planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation

  • Familiarity with the NGO sector, donor requirements, and project proposal and concept paper development

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of livelihoods/economic empowerment interventions, including financial support, vocational training, entrepreneurship, SHG and business development

  • Excellent networking, partnership building, and communication skills

  • Strong knowledge in project management, including planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other relevant software applications.

  • Understanding of development programs;

  • Good presentation, communication, networking and partnering skills;

  • Participatory Program and Project Designing, Monitoring and Evaluation Experience;

  • A strong aptitude for organizational change, innovation, learning, team building
