Job Description

Emmanuel Development Association (EDA) is a not-for-profit organization registered in Ethiopia under the organizations of Civil Societies Proclamation No.1113/2019 on July 22,2019 with certificate No. 0196. EDA works to improve the wellbeing of vulnerable children, youth and women through promoting rights based and community-led development approach in Ethiopia.

EDA is looking for qualified candidates to fill the following positions:

Youth Employment Officer

Location: Addis Ababa (Akaki Kality & Nifas Silk-Lafto Sub-cities)
Contract Type: One year contract with possible Extension
Reports to: program Manager

Required Number: Two

Salary and benefits: Negotiable

Windows of Hope project aims to create sustainable job opportunities for vulnerable youth — including young women, persons with disabilities, and internally displaced persons (IDPs) — by empowering Youth-Led Organizations (YLOs) engaged in the garment and leather sectors. The project will be implemented in Akaki Kality and Nifas Silk-Lafto sub-cities of Addis Ababa, focusing on:

  • Strengthening the capacity of YLOs to provide skills training and employment facilitation 

  • Supporting access to finance, work premises, and market linkages and 

  • Promoting inclusive job creation that will reach approximately 5,000 youth

The Youth Employment Officer will play a key facilitation and coordination role, supporting YLOs as the main implementers of project activities. The officer will provide ongoing technical assistance, coaching, and capacity-building to ensure YLOs effectively deliver skills training, job matching, and market linkage activities in the garment and leather sectors

Key Responsibilities

  • Support YLOs in planning, implementing, and reporting their project activities.

  • Facilitate capacity-building sessions for YLOs in areas such as project management, financial management, youth engagement, and partnership building.

  • Assist YLOs in coordinating skills training, entrepreneurship support, and job linkage activities.

  • Help YLOs establish and maintain partnerships with garment and leather enterprises, financial institutions, and training centers to create wage employment opportunities in the garment and leather sectors 

  • Monitor the implementation of YLO-led activities and provide feedback and technical guidance.

  • Ensure the inclusion of young women, persons with disabilities, and IDPs in YLO outreach and interventions.

  • Support documentation of success stories, lessons learned, and good practices from YLO experiences.

  • Contribute to project reports, learning sessions, and coordination meetings.

Job Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in development studies, Business, Economics, Industrial Engineering, or related field.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in youth employment, livelihoods projects to support roles.

  • Proven experience working with or supporting youth organizations, cooperatives, or associations.

  • Strong understanding of capacity-building, facilitation, and partnership development.

  • Familiarity with the garment and leather sectors and youth entrepreneurship.

  • Excellent communication and coordination skills in Amharic and English.
