Job Description

Reports to: Finance & Administration Coordinator

Location: Bonga, Ethiopia

Duration: One year, renewable based on satisfactory performance

Start date: December,2025 .

Organization Description

Village Enterprise is an innovative microenterprise development organization working in East Africa to reduce poverty with the following mission – “To end extreme poverty in rural Africa through entrepreneurship and innovation.” Village Enterprise provides business training, seed capital/start-up funds and mentoring to entrepreneurs annually to start new businesses each year.

Harvest Project Overview

Village Enterprise and HereWeGrow are partnering to address the interwoven challenges of poverty, gender inequity, and climate vulnerability facing smallholder coffee farmers in Ethiopia’s Keffa Zone. By implementing Village Enterprise’s proven, graduation-based poverty alleviation model, the project will equip ultra-poor households in coffee-farming communities with the tools, knowledge, and resources needed to build resilient, diversified, and sustainable livelihoods.

Rooted in over 35 years of experience across sub-Saharan Africa, Village Enterprise’s 12-month, group-based poverty graduation model equips first-time entrepreneurs with the skills, resources, and support needed to sustainably transform their households and communities. Through a combination of business and financial literacy training, seed capital grants, the formation of self-managed savings groups, and ongoing mentorship from local, community-based mentors, participants are empowered to launch small businesses tailored to their skills and aligned with local market demand - ranging from crop cultivation and livestock rearing to tailoring, carpentry, and retail services. This flexible, locally grounded approach ensures that businesses are relevant, sustainable, and resilient to future shocks. By addressing both immediate needs and systemic barriers, the program enables families to increase incomes, improve food security and nutrition, invest in healthcare and education, and ultimately break the cycle of poverty for generations to come.
