Job Description

Finn Church Aid (FCA) is the largest Finnish international aid organization. FCA Ethiopia Country Office has been established in 2022 working in livelihood, education and peace sectors.

The Education Officer will be responsible for the daily implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of SAFE project activities in Bambasi and Sherkole refugee camps and Ura refugee site. He/she will oversee activities that contribute towards; a) increasing access to safe, protective and inclusive emergency learning environments for newly arrived refugee and destitute host community boys, girls and CwDs, b) providing quality education through enhanced capacity of teachers and other education personnel and c) improving protection, safeguarding and wellbeing of newly arrived refugee and destitute host community boys, girls and CwDs.

The incumbent will be based in Assosa and will report to Project Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the construction of gender and disability friendly classrooms including furnishing

  • Coordinate effective distribution of assistive devices to CwDs, MHM kits to adolescent girls and SRHR sessions for enrolled learners, and provision of school uniforms and other scholastic materials

  • Coordinate the recruitment and remuneration of Facilitators

  • Organize teacher trainings on Teaching in Crisis Context (TiCC), Child Protection and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), and SNE.

  • Ensure facilitators and teachers are provided with teaching materials to support teaching and learning.

  • Coordinate peer coaching and Teacher/Facilitators Learning Circles activities.

  • Set up of school-based protection including mapping of services and referral flowcharts, IEC materials, and training and support to child protection focal points in all schools

  • Promote Safe School Declaration including fencing, development of school safety and Disaster Risk Reduction plans,

  • Facilitate PSS sessions and referral pathways for learners and teachers in need

  • Equip schools with recreational materials and support of extra-curricular activities and

child-led events/performances

  • Establish Complains Response Mechanisms incl. boxes, and sensitisation sessions for children, teachers and parents/caregivers.

  • Facilitate joint school monitoring visits with Regional Education Bureau, School Managements, and Parent Teacher Associations to promote quality education and learning outcome.

Job Requirements

Required Qualification, Experience and Competencies

  • Bachelor?s degree in education, Social Sciences, or a related field. Master?s degree is an advantage.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Education in Emergencies (EiE) or a related field, preferably in refugee/IDP contexts.

  • Experience in teacher training, curriculum development, and community-based education interventions.

  • Familiarity with Accelerated Education Programmes (AEP) and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR).

  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.

  • Strong facilitation and communication skills, with the ability to train and work effectively with teachers, parents, and community leaders.

  • Knowledge of gender-sensitive education, child protection, and inclusive education practices.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Fluency in English is required; knowledge of Amharic or other local languages is a plus.

  • Prior related work experience in the region
