SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. We started our humanitarian work in Ethiopia with the opening of our first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. Since then, we have expanded our programs to different regions where there are significant needs for intervention and where we believe we can work in partnership with all relevant actors to bring sustainable positive outcomes for children’s and young people.

Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and those that are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; we aspire that every child grows up with love, respect and security.

We are looking for a project coordinator with responsblity of planning (including budgeting), implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the Green Growth program activities, in accordance with the organization’s policies, strategies, and available resources.

Additionally, will play a critical role in the successful implementation of the Green Growth Project aimed at enhancing economic participation and resilience among disadvantaged youth in Addis Ababa, particularly focusing on young women. This position requires strong organizational skills, project management experience, and a passion for sustainable development and youth empowerment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Your role?

As a Project Coordinator,for Green Growth project you will be in charge of the following:

1. Lead the planning of the Family and Community Development Project:

  • Lead the implementation of the project in line with the organization’s mission, policies, strategies and available resources.

  • Define the interests and possible involvement of key stakeholders in the various stages of program development process.

  • Lead the development of program design, based on the findings of the baseline assessment and analysis, and in line with the organization’s policies, strategies and available resources. In doing so, ensure the participation of key stakeholders, as appropriate.

  • Once the program is established, ensure that the annual planning process is carried out and plans are updated, according to the policies and strategies of the organization. Particular attention is given to ensure that key inputs are considered, including outputs from the program self-evaluation and internal control reviews.

  • Lead the implementation of the project in line with the organization’s mission, policies, strategies and available resources.

  • Build positive relationships with the community and/or local authorities.

  • Build a strong network of partner organizations.

  • Build and manage a strong Project team.

  • Ensure that mechanisms for ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place and function well.

  • Develop detailed project plans outlining timelines, milestones, and deliverables to ensure the project is completed on time and within budget.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, local government bodies, NGOs, and community organizations to foster partnerships that support project objectives.

  • Curriculum Revision: Collaborate with educational experts to revise TVET curricula focusing on emerging green skills relevant to the local economy.

  • Training Support: Organize workshops and training sessions for educators to enhance their teaching capacity in green skills.etc.

  • Resource Allocation: Manage project resources effectively, including financial, human, and material resources, to ensure that all aspects of the project are adequately supported.

2. COORDINATE THE IMPLEMENTATION OF PROGRAM ACTIVITIES:

  • Collaboration with TVET Institutions: Establish strong partnerships with TVET institutions to enhance teaching capacity through training programs for educators on green skills.

  • Develop detailed work plans for project activities aligned with the overall project goals.

  • Engagement with Youth: Actively engage with disadvantaged youth, particularly young women, to understand their needs and challenges in accessing education and employment opportunities.

  • Networking with Employers: Build relationships with local businesses and organizations to create internship placements and job opportunities for project beneficiaries.

  • Establish clear vulnerability criteria, to prioritize cases from within the given target group according to levels of vulnerability; in consultation with key stakeholders in the community (including children at risk of losing parental care and their caregivers).

  • Work towards creating a safe and secure environment for children and young people, including raising awareness, prevention, reporting and responding procedure.

  • Work in close cooperation with other key support co-workers (e.g. financial and administrative staff) within the ‘integrated approach’.

  • Foster good relationships and maintain close cooperation with local government authorities, recognized community leadership, like-minded groups, organizations and/or institutions operating with the local community, who share the organization’s vision, as well as those who provide complementary services.

  • Build a strong network of partner organizations.

  • Lead and supervise the Project team.

  • Represent the Project as well as the organization at internal and external forums.

3. Financial management and administration of the program:

  • Budget Management: Oversee the project’s budget by tracking expenditures against planned activities while ensuring compliance with funding requirements.

  • Funding Applications: Assist in identifying potential funding sources for additional resources or program expansion through grant writing or proposal submissions.

  • Financial Reporting: Ensure accurate financial reporting as required by donors or stakeholders involved in funding the project.

  • Ensure that the organization’s financial resources are used modestly and efficiently.

  • Financial Reporting: Ensure accurate financial reporting as required by donors or stakeholders involved in funding the project.

  • Managing the project budget is a critical responsibility that includes tracking expenditures related to training programs, materials provided to TVET institutions, and business development services offered to youth.

  • Actively engage with disadvantaged youth, especially young women, to identify their specific challenges and needs regarding skills development and employment opportunities.

  • Developing training programs that enhance the skills of both instructors at TVET institutions, and the students enrolled in these programs. This includes integrating green skills into existing curricula.

  • Organize workshops and training sessions focused on entrepreneurship skills, employability skills, and financial literacy for youth participants.

4. BUILD A STRONG SOS PROGRAM TEAM:

  • Follow professional recruitment processes for new co-workers (draw-up advert, screening of applications, interviews, and reference checks) in consultation with direct supervisor.

  • Plan orientation programs for new co-workers to ensure they have a good understanding of the organization and their role within it.

  • Ensure effective performance management systems are implemented for all program co-workers, including job descriptions, regular review sessions, and annual performance appraisals, in line with the required practices of the national association.

  • Ensure that individual staff training and development needs are identified and that these are addressed through staff development measures, according to priorities and available resources.

  • Establishing partnerships with local TVET institutions is crucial for revising curricula and providing technical support. The Project Coordinator must engage with these institutions to understand their needs and how best to support them.

5. ESTABLISH MECHANISMS FOR ONGOING MONITORING AND EVALUATION OF THE PROGRAM:

  • Ensure that monitoring and evaluation systems are in place and function well, in line with the organization’s requirements. This includes ongoing data collection from regular reviews of the situation of families and community-based partners, data capturing in the FS database, program self-evaluation, internal control reviews, audits and other evaluations.

  • Develop indicators to measure the success of project activities related to employment outcomes and skill acquisition.

  • Collect data on participant outcomes for post-training (e.g., employment rates, business start-ups).

  • Prepare regular reports summarizing findings from monitoring activities for stakeholders.

  • Provide direct supervisor with regular up-dates on program activities and results, including regular written reports, according to organizational requirements.

  • Secure regular financial management reports, including budget vs. expenditure reports, as required for the effective management of program resources.

  • Monitoring project progress against established indicators is essential for ensuring that objectives are met effectively. The coordinator must develop monitoring tools to assess the impact of training programs on youth employment outcomes.

  • Performance Tracking: Develop metrics to monitor progress towards project goals, including tracking enrolment rates in TVET programs and employment outcomes for participants.

  • Reporting: Prepare regular reports on project status, achievements, challenges faced, and lessons learned for stakeholders including funders and community partners.

  • Feedback Mechanisms: Implement feedback systems to gather input from participants regarding their experiences in training programs and job placements to continuously improve project offerings.

6. Contribute to the work of the broader organization:

  • Participate in local, national, regional and continental processes, meetings and structures within the organization as required and agreed with the direct supervisor.

  • Document and share good practices and lessons learned with colleagues to support organizational learning.

  • Prepare Project information as required for public relations and fund development purposes.

  • Keep track of child rights issues in general, as well as current social development issues and trends relevant to the organization’s mission.

7. Accountability:

  • Identifying key performance indicators (KPIs): These metrics measure the project’s effectiveness in achieving its goals. Examples include participation rates, program completion rates, and changes in family functioning.

  • Regularly monitoring and reporting on progress: The project manager must track progress against the KPIs and provide regular reports to stakeholders. This ensures transparency and allows for timely adjustments if needed.

  • Ensuring Resource Management and Financial Accountability:

  • Managing project resources effectively: This includes allocating resources appropriately, monitoring their use, and ensuring that they are used efficiently and effectively.

  • Maintaining accurate financial records: The project coordinator must ensure that all financial transactions are properly documented and accounted for. This includes tracking expenses, managing budgets, and adhering to relevant financial regulations.

  • Fostering Collaboration and Communication:

  • Building strong relationships with stakeholders: This includes families, community members, partner organizations, and funders. Open communication and collaboration are essential for ensuring accountability and shared ownership of the project.

8. PEOPLE’S MANAGEMENT AND CAPACITY BUILDING:

  • Recruit, hire, and train staff: This includes developing job descriptions, conducting interviews, and onboarding new team members. The manager also ensures that staff have the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively carry out their roles.

  • Supervise and mentor staff: This involves providing regular feedback, setting performance goals, and offering support and guidance to help staff develop their skills and reach their full potential.

  • Facilitate team building and collaboration: This includes organizing team meetings, retreats, and other activities to promote teamwork and communication.

  • Identify and address staff development needs: This involves regularly assessing staff skills and knowledge gaps and developing strategies to address them.

  • Promote staff well-being and work-life balance: This includes creating a supportive work environment that values staff well-being and encourages a healthy work-life balance.

  • Work with labor market actors such as financial institutions and associations to enhance their capacity in supporting youth economic participation.

  • Conduct training sessions focused on understanding the needs of disadvantaged youth within the labor market context.

9. SAFEGUARDING (CHILD, YOUNG PEOPLE, ADULT AND ASSET) AND GENDER EQUALITY:

  • Ensure gender and disability mainstreaming within the overall project system and during the project and program cycle management.

  • Ensure that safeguarding and child protection mainstreaming are integrated into all project frameworks through measurable output and outcome indicators.

  • Ensure that safeguarding measures are in place within area his/her responsibility and that staff, associates and other key stakeholders are aware of safeguarding principles and measures.

  • Ensure and support the process of mainstreaming and integrating safeguarding in all project frameworks through measurable output and outcome indicators.

  • Lead /Support the process of piloting and scaling up local-level beneficiary complaints’ mechanisms concerning co-workers ‘conduct, with an emphasis on the safeguarding policies and measures to prevent sexual exploitation of women and children.

  • Responsible for reporting any safeguarding suspicion, concern, allegation, or incident immediately, following the safeguarding reporting procedures. Safeguarding reports should be made to the safeguarding team at the program level and/or to the respective line manager; and

  • Responsible for ensuring behaviours and all relationships are based on safeguarding and in line with the Code of Conduct and adhering to it in every situation.

  • Conduct themselves per the Code of Conduct, Safeguarding and Local/Country Policies and Procedures.

  • Be vigilant about any possible form of abuse/harm, neglect, harassment, or exploitation against, children, youth and adults in personal and professional lives.

  • Report any safeguarding incident or concern within 24 hours to the Incident Management Team, focal person or concerned party through the defined channels for reporting the allegation.

Job Requirements:

Must Criteria

  • Education: He/she must have a bachelor’s degree in education, Social Sciences, Business Administration or a related field; master’s degree preferred.

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience in project coordination or management within an educational or vocational training environment.
