LWF World Service Ethiopia is a registered foreign charity, which has been operating in Ethiopia since 1973 implementing various development and humanitarian projects in different parts of Ethiopia. LWF World Service Ethiopia works closely with the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus (EECMY), the Ethiopian Government, UN organizations and other funding partners. Its thematic areas include the promotion of food security and sustainable livelihood, sustainable natural resources management, emergency preparedness, response and rehabilitation, and capacity building.

The overall purpose of this new role is to implement and coordinate protection interventions under GAC funded project in Amhara region. The post holder is based in Lalibela, North Wollo and responsible for coordination of LWF/DWS protection interventions in North Wollo and Wahgmira Zones. Specific responsibilities of the Protection Coordinator include; 1) oversee implementation of all protection interventions in all projects as per the global and DWS/LWF protection principles, 2) liaise & coordinate with protection stakeholders, 3) ensure protection mainstreaming in other sector interventions, 4) mentor, guide and supervise protection staff members and, 5) closely work with and advocate for the community we serve.
A. Leadership
Provide technical support in the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the LWF protection and social cohesion interventions including Child Protection, Gender based community-based psychosocial support (CBPS), Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) and Safe guarding among other key protection related initiatives;
Provide technical guidance, leadership and capacity building to the right holders, relevant government departments and LWF staffs for protection related activities.
Supervise protection staff members under his/her line management.
Facilitate selection of target communities and project priority groups jointly with project staff, local government representatives and communities and other relevant stakeholders;
Lead and coordinate protection assessments, safety audits, and baseline surveys.
Lead the development of procurement plans, detailed implementation plans and budget plans for protection projects and interventions/activities;
Ensure that protection is effectively mainstreamed in other sectors and projects;
Oversee the implementation of protection projects and interventions in accordance with approved work plan, time schedules and budgets;
Carry out field monitoring visits to provide technical support to the field projects;
Develop and revise technical training materials and support the introduction of new approaches in Protection programming;
Participate in proposal development and budgeting for new projects in accordance with the provided LWF guidelines and standards or specific donor requirements;
Lead periodic data collection process on project progress, and compile monthly, quarterly, and annual report on protection report for relevant program staff (PM and PMER)
Support right holders to access available protection services and resources as per the terms and conditions of the contract agreement;
Document regular significant success, human interest stories, best practices and photos;
Contribute to development of new project proposals;
Conduct training on relevant thematic areas and other project interventions.
Work closely with the country office protection team to ensure the delivery of project outcomes
Provide technical backstopping and facilitation, work closely with partners, field staff, and cluster-based stakeholders, networks, and community members to ensure achievement of objectives in timely and cost-effective manner;
Ensure that regular meetings are conducted by the project staff and reports are prepared and submitted to the Head Office;
Ensure core humanitarian standards (CHS) are adhered to in the implementation of the protection and social cohesion activities;
Support timely preparation of periodic reports (weekly, 5WS, monthly, quarterly, annual, etc.) in accordance with LWF and donor requirements;
Ensure regular and proactive budget analysis and expenditure monitoring in for all protection related activities in collaboration with other staffs and the Regional Coordinator;
Ensure that the Protection Sector analyzes and provides timely feedback to upon receipt of financial report;
Liaise with other sector coordinators, finance and RC to ensure timely expenditure tracking and budget control;
Ensure compliance with donor rules including visibility in the implementation of projects (with the support of the Grants unit);
Facilitate consolidation of beneficiary data and share with the PMER Officer;
Promote accountability to affected populations using the LWF accountability framework.

Required Minimum Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
Degree in Human Rights, Law, Social work and social administration, or social sciences from recognized institutions
At lease 7 years of experience preferably working with International NGOs or UN agencies.
High level of integrity, commitment and professional responsibility;
Ability to work independently with protection guidelines and protocols to meet expectations;
Strong inter- personal and team building and mentoring skills;
Ability to tolerate cultural, education and religious diversity in the work place;
Excellent communication, organization and presentation skills.
Ability to work under pressure, prioritize well and meet deadlines;
Ability to travel extensively, especially to remote areas;
Experience in and the ability to train, coach, and mentor people;
Fluent written and spoken English and Amharic.
