Brief description of the project/ unit
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a global service provider in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development dedicated to shaping a future worth living around the world. As a public-benefit federal enterprise, GIZ supports the German Government – in particular the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) – and many public and private sector clients in achieving their objectives in international cooperation in around 120 countries.
GIZ AU:
Since 2004, GIZ has been a reliable and trusted partner of the African Union (AU) to enhance inclusive growth and sustainable development on the African continent in line with the AU’s Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want. With around 250 staff, GIZ African Union cooperates with the AU Commission, as well as the AU’s specialised institutions and agencies, such as the Development Agency AUDA-NEPAD, at continental, regional and national level in more than 40 member states. Key areas of engagement include Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention, Governance, Sustainable Economic Growth, Health and Social Development, as well as Just Transition.
About GIZ HMCCC
On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the GIZ Global Programme on HMCCC aims to address the challenges and opportunities related to human mobility in the context of climate change (HMCCC). A specific component of the Programme will be implemented in collaboration with the African Union (AU) with the objective to improve the capacity of regional and continental actors to implement climate-resilient, gender-responsive and conflict-sensitive HMCCC approaches, pursuing the vision of migration as a form of adaptation.
For the close cooperation with the AU on the AUC Component of the programme, GIZ is currently recruiting an Advisor for Human Mobility in the Context of Climate Change.
Support the implementation of the HMCCC programme activities in close collaboration with AU and other stakeholders.
Develop and maintain project plans, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
Organize workshops, meetings, and training sessions to build capacity and raise awareness on climate change and migration issues.
Monitor and evaluate project activities, ensuring that objectives are met and report on progress to the component lead.
Foster strong partnerships with relevant stakeholders, including regional organizations, government agencies, and non-state actors.
Ensure compliance with GIZ policies and procedures, and maintain high standards of project management.
A minimum of a Masters degree in environmental science, geography, international relations, law, political science, or a related field.
Strong ability to handle complex work environments with competing tasks that require prioritization and scheduling.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
Familiarity with MS Office programs and project management tools.
Professional experience
Several years of relevant professional experience in project management, preferably in the context of climate change or migration.
Familiarity with the topics of climate change, migration and displacement and the respective global and continental policy frameworks and stakeholders.
Experience organizing or supporting events, workshops, or training sessions.
Experience in creating reports and presentations.
Preferred Experience:
Experience working with international and development organizations, including GIZ, is an asset.
Proficiency in English; knowledge of other AU languages is an advantage. Knowledge of German is an asset.
