Job Description
As the Risk Manager at Digaf Microfinance, you will be responsible for establishing, implementing, and maintaining a robust risk management framework tailored to the Fintech and microfinance industry. Your role ensures the company's sustainability, regulatory compliance, and strategic growth by identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks in a dynamic and technology-driven financial environment.
1. Risk Governance and Framework
Develop and implement a comprehensive risk management framework aligned with the Fintech and microfinance sector's needs.
Establish risk policies, procedures, and controls to safeguard the company’s assets, customers, and reputation.
Define and regularly review the company’s risk appetite in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
2. Risk Identification and Assessment
Identify and assess risks across operational, financial, credit, regulatory, technology, and market domains.
Evaluate risks associated with digital lending platforms, mobile money services, and blockchain-based systems.
Conduct due diligence and risk assessments on partnerships with technology providers and service vendors.
3. Risk Mitigation and Controls
Design and implement risk mitigation strategies and controls to address identified risks.
Work closely with IT teams to manage cybersecurity risks, fraud prevention, and data breaches.
Monitor credit risk exposure and assess borrower creditworthiness to minimize loan defaults.
4. Compliance and Regulatory Oversight
Ensure full compliance with national regulations, including central bank guidelines and microfinance-specific policies.
Stay updated on emerging regulations affecting Fintech and microfinance sectors.
Coordinate audits and inspections by internal, external, and regulatory bodies.
5. Monitoring and Reporting
Develop key risk indicators (KRIs) and dashboards to monitor risks effectively.
Provide periodic risk reports to the CEO, Board of Directors, and stakeholders, highlighting trends and recommendations.
Oversee stress testing and scenario analysis to prepare for adverse events.
6. Culture and Training
Foster a risk-aware culture within Digaf Microfinance by conducting training and awareness programs.
Equip teams with tools and knowledge to identify and manage risks effectively.
Required Qualifications and Skills
Educational Background
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Risk Management, Economics, Business Administration, or related fields.
Advanced degree (MBA, MSc) or certifications (e.g., PRM, FRM, CRISC) preferred.
Professional Experience
5+ years of experience in risk management within Fintech, microfinance, or financial services.
Proven expertise in managing credit risk, operational risk, and technology risk in a digital financial ecosystem.
Technical Skills
Knowledge of microfinance operations, digital lending, mobile banking, and related financial technologies.
Familiarity with risk management tools and software.
Strong understanding of compliance requirements, including AML/CFT regulations, and data privacy laws.
Soft Skills
Analytical and strategic thinker with excellent problem-solving skills.
Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
Proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of working under pressure.
