Job Description
Assists supervisor in supervising and directing transit and custom clearance activities;
Obtains import licenses and other necessary permits;
Checks incoming supplies and other imported goods against bill of lading and other documents;
Handles such transactions as customs declaration, bank processes, insurance, transit etc. deposits and excess taxes obtains import licenses and other necessary permits;
Checks and completes business forms relating to insurance, customs declarations, bank payments, maritime, etc.;
Follows- up and ensures that customs and transit expense are paid and that documents are obtained on time;
Ensures that all imported goods and supplies are cleared on arrival before the expiry of insurance and the accrual of storage cost;
Checks in detail particulars of imported goods to be received against bill of lading, vouchers, and other related documents;
Liaises with maritime/clearing agents for custom clearance and shipment of goods to company warehouse;
Liaises with air cargo carriers to ensure that all discrepancies are reported on time regarding less or damage of goods for timely clearance;
Forwards insurance claims for goods short landed or missed or damaged;
Ensures and verifies that transit service payments are effected on time;
Periodically prepares and submits report on goods delivered and goods in transit
Files vouchers, invoices, receipts, letters and other documents and compiles summaries of transactions;
Follows up and ensures that payment or advance requests submitted to finance are processed timely;
Arranges for the entry and clearance of the goods directly by the transitor or through its agent and also arranges payment in accordance with the import tariff to customs at the port;
Presents the Bill of Lading, invoices, packaging specifications, and L/C attached to the declaration form to customs for the release of goods;
Takes delivery of the goods from the customs warehouses after paying the duty levied on them;
Ensures that the goods acquired and paid for by customers and which are processed by Ethio-Nippon are duly delivered to the customers;
Sees to it that the customer is also informed of the movement of the goods;
Files a claim to insurance for cargo short-landed, lost, or damaged;
Makes sure that all claims for insured imports which cannot be found at the port should be settled by the insurance company;
Makes sure that the clearing agent is present when the cargo is being off-loaded , so that he/she can witness any damage that may occur;
Addresses to customs all claims for consignments damaged during off-loading;
Performs other related duties as required.
First degree in Accounting & Finance or Accounting from a recognized university/college with 4 years of experience
Proficiency in customs and import clearing processes,
preparing bank documentation (ESW), marine insurance, and claims
Strong communication skills for handling correspondence,
second-grade driving license, and aged 25-35 years.
