Job Description

The Mining Sector Manager is responsible for the planning, organizing, leading, coordinating, and controlling of mining exploration and operation activities. The role focuses on enhancing the quality, efficiency, and profitability of mining operations through new working methods and effective management. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, lead, and control mining exploration and operational activities under the guidance of the DCEO (Core Business Portfolios).

  • Coordinate the development and implementation of strategic plans and operational plans after obtaining DCEO approval.

  • Cascade the plans to sub-departments, track performance, and resolve any arising issues.

  • Manage overall mining operations with a focus on profitability, resource utilization, and operational efficiency.

  • Prepare and monitor production and operating budgets, ensuring that costs and performance are tracked effectively.

  • Oversee daily mine operations, ensuring a safe and productive work environment for all personnel.

  • Lead and implement occupational health and safety procedures to ensure a safe mining environment.

  • Identify and address operational, technical, and safety challenges proactively.

  • Oversee the adoption and implementation of appropriate technological solutions to enhance business performance and operational efficiency.

  • Collaborate with local communities and regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with company policies and relevant laws.

  • Propose capital expenditure projects to enhance capacity or improve operational efficiency.

  • Oversee new projects such as installing new mining equipment, opening new shafts, or launching new initiatives.

  • Ensure optimal utilization of machines, facilities, and systems across various mining projects.

  • Develop and manage workforce planning, ensuring appropriate human resources are in place for mining operations.

  • Prepare and oversee operational and capital budgets for mining activities, ensuring cost efficiency.

  • Monitor and manage direct reports, ensuring growth and development while fostering a capable and competent workforce.

  • Manage relationships with customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure favorable terms and long-term partnerships.

  • Develop and implement operations processes and procedures to enhance effectiveness and efficiency in mining operations.

  • Prepare manuals/guides for effective mining searches, development, and operational practices.

  • Implement modern mining methods and technologies to improve productivity and develop new mining products.

  • Continuously seek opportunities for process improvements and operational enhancements.

  • Oversee the proper management of financial records, assets, and properties related to the mining function.

  • Ensure regular inventory audits and monitor the use of resources to avoid waste or inefficiency.

  • Participate in initiatives aimed at improving the economic, social, and environmental conditions of local communities affected by mining activities.

  • Contribute to building a positive image of the Group through responsible and sustainable mining practices.

  • Regularly report on mining operations, performance, and financial standing to the DCEO.

  • Track progress and approve costs, ensuring adherence to budgets and timelines.

  • Monitor, evaluate, and guide the performance and development of mining personnel.

  • Ensure a focus on safety, environmental sustainability, and respect for societal heritage in all mining operations.

Job Requirements

Qualification and Experience: 

  • Education: MSc in Mining, Mine Survey Engineering, Geology, Economics, or a related field.

  • Experience: At least 10 years of experience in mining or related fields, with at least 6 years in a managerial role.
