ChipChip is seeking a Senior Accountant to take charge of our financial processes, ensure compliance with Ethiopian accounting and tax regulations, and provide critical support for the company’s operations. The Senior Accountant will perform a wide range of accounting and financial management duties, ensuring the accuracy of financial records, compliance with tax and regulatory requirements, and efficiency in operations. This role requires exceptional attention to detail and expertise in Ethiopian financial systems.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Record Keeping and Reporting

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for the company.

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

• Reconcile bank statements, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger accounts.

• Provide detailed financial reports to management for decision-making purposes.

2. Tax Compliance and Reporting

• Prepare and file all tax returns, including VAT, withholding tax, payroll tax, and annual income tax, in line with Ethiopian tax laws.

• Ensure timely payments of taxes and compliance with all reporting deadlines.

• Keep up-to-date with changes in Ethiopian tax laws and regulations and advise management on their implications.

3. Month-End and Year-End Closing

• Oversee month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.

• Prepare financial summaries and ensure accurate recording of transactions for audit purposes.

4. Internal Controls and Compliance

• Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity.

• Monitor compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and local regulations.

• Conduct periodic reviews to identify and mitigate risks in financial operations.

5. Budgeting and Forecasting

• Assist in the preparation and management of budgets.

• Conduct variance analysis to compare actual performance with budgets.

• Provide recommendations to improve cost efficiency and financial planning.

6. Payroll and Employee Benefits

• Process employee payroll and ensure compliance with tax deductions and reporting requirements.

• Reconcile payroll accounts and ensure accurate disbursement of salaries.

7. Audit and External Collaboration

• Coordinate and facilitate external audits, providing necessary documentation and clarifications.

• Collaborate with regulatory authorities during inspections or audits.

8. Financial Process Improvement

• Identify opportunities for improving financial processes and systems.

• Propose and implement solutions to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial operations.

Job Requirements

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

• Experience:

  • Minimum of 4  years in professional accounting, with expertise in Ethiopian tax and financial regulations.

• Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills.

• Strong knowledge of Ethiopian tax laws, accounting standards, and financial reporting requirements.

• Analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
