The GBV, MHPSS Project Manager will manage the Ethiopia pilot global GBV-MHPSS consensus project, led by George Washington University Global Women’s Institute (GWI) in consortium with International Medical Corps (IMC) and Trocaire in the field of services in Ethiopia to improve the provision of mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) services to gender-based violence (GBV) survivors, by putting into practice new consensus-based guidance developed with BHA funding.  

He/She will Coordinate, lead and support the field pilot in Shire and Mekelle in line with the agreed consortium proposal. He/She will work closely with the national GBV and MHPSS team, Trocaire, selected women-led organization as well as with the MHPSS technical working groups and the GBV AOR at regional and national level.

Main Task and Duties

  • Provide technical and administrative leadership during the implementation of the global GBV-MHPSS project.

  • Collaborate closely with GBV AoR, MHPSS TWG, Health, Protection clusters and women led organization in Tigray for effective representation and engagement to integrate the consensus guidance adopted from the global initiatives. 

  • Support the roll-out and application of GBV and MHPSS consensus-based guidance at regional level. ​ 

  • Provide technical support, coaching, and mentorship on the consensus guidance to GBV and MHPSS service providers. 

  • Work in partnership with a project management counterpart representing a women-led organization (WLO) 

  • Coordinate closely with project partners Trocaire and WLO selected in Mekele

  • Engage women’s rights and women-led organizations (WRO/WLO), governmental and non-governmental actors providing support services to survivors of GBV and at-risk women and girls. 

  • With WLO counterpart, co-lead and support dialogue spaces between GBV and MHPSS service providers in Shire, Tigray. 

  • Facilitate peer led professional development sessions for frontline GBV and MHPSS service providers, focused on safe, effective and well-coordinated provision of MHPSS services to GBV survivors and those at risk.

  • Organize and facilitate technical workshops, bringing GBV and MHPSS practitioners from Shire and Mekele together 

  • Organize kick off and closing workshops among different GBV, MHPSS partners and clusters.

  • Support development of new tools and resources to guide GBV and MHPSS service providers in their work with survivors. 

  •  Document learning from dialogue sessions, peer support sessions, technical workshops, and overall project implementation 

  • Coordinate technical and project partner meetings, including travel to Mekele  

  • Closely work and communicate regular updates and activity reports to country GBV and MHPSS teams and the global GBV and MHPSS Specialist consultant and global GBV and MHPSS TAs. 

  • Regularly conduct Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) activities and deliver timely reports and updates.

Implement global GBV-MHPSS project related activities as per direction from the immediate and technical supervisors

Job Requirements

  • Holds degree or higher educational background including Psychiatry, Psychology, Social Work and other related fields

  • Experience and familiarity with GBV and MHPSS services in Shire, program management background and strong interpersonal and coordination skill 

  • Minimum of three years of experience in support services for survivors of GBV, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS). 

  • Experience with project management 

  • Familiarity with MHPSS and GBV standards and guidance. 

  • Familiarity with government and non-governmental GBV and MHPSS service providers in the Tigray region is preferred.

  • Strong training experience and skills, including on the job and formal training.

  • Ability to work with a broad spectrum of people from different cultural backgrounds. 

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Flexible with ability to cope with stressful situations with limited resources.

  • Exemplify core principles of GBV and MHPSS programming, including respect, non-discrimination, responsible use of power, nonviolence, and promotion of gender equality

  • Fluency in English and the local language Tigrigna. 

  • Knowledge of the local context and the humanitarian situation of the region.
