Management Sciences for Health (MSH) is seeking an Accountant for a recently awarded 5-year USAID supply chain and pharmaceutical management project in Ethiopia. The purpose is to provide comprehensive technical assistance to strengthen the health supply chain and pharmaceutical services in select geographic areas in Ethiopia, both of which are cornerstones to achieving critical life-saving priorities.

The Accountant will be responsible for assisting the Director of Finance and Administration with safeguarding the assets (financial and physical) of MSH and ultimately the U.S. Government or other donors against fraud, loss or misuse. The Accountant will be responsible for ensuring that any money expended in the Country is done by Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, MSH policy, and any cost principles imposed by the donor agency. The Accountant is primarily responsible for, but is not limited to, preparing payment vouchers, ensuring proper record keeping, activity advance reconciliations, and supporting the Director of Finance and Administration in VAT, WHT, and other relevant Tax reporting. The Accountant is aware of and adheres to MSH’s procurement integrity standards in all activities.

Job Requirement

  • Education: University Degree in Accounting, Business administration or a similar field

  • Experience: At least three (3) years of experience

  • Experience in working with donor-funded projects and a general understanding of their rules and regulations are preferred

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Work experience with projects supported by international organizations

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel spreadsheets

  • Ability to use basic accounting software (i.e. QuickBooks) or comparable software

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills with a service-oriented outlook

  • Verbal and written language skills in English required including speaking, writing, understanding, and reading and the ability to conduct business in English

  • Ability to demonstrate good judgment in financial review

  • Excellent communication skills

Competencies:

  • Ability to review and prepare payment vouchers and also code all transactions properly

  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment while driving results

  • Creative in problem-solving

  • Organized and detail-oriented

  • Ability to reconcile advances, including review of receipts and other submissions, and process vendor and participant payments

  • Understanding of the basic tenets of Cash Control, Asset Management, and Bank Reconciliation
