Job Description
Project HOPE is an international NGO work in more than 25 countries. For more than 65 years, Project HOPE has responded to the world’s most pressing global health challenges and transformed the lives of people and communities around the world.
With the financial support of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Project HOPE has commenced implementing a research project “Pathways for Ethiopia”. The purpose of the project is to understand, reach, and serve vulnerable populations in Ethiopia through applying the “Pathways” method https://www.projectpathways.org/about. Specific objectives include identifying factors that make Ethiopian women and their children vulnerable to poor Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child Health, and Nutrition (RMNCHN) services utilization and health outcome, conducting population segmentation based on the key sources of vulnerability, and intervening to effectively reach the vulnerable segments of the population. The project also envisions to build the modelling capacity within the Government of Ethiopia health system to nurture evidence-based PH decision making practice.
Project HOPE wants to employ a qualified and experienced Research Associate as per the specifications provided below.
POSITION TITLE: Research Associate
NUMBER OF POSITIONS: 1 (One)
REPORTS TO: Senior Pathways Advisor, Pathways Ethiopia Project
DUTY STATION: Addis Ababa
DURATION OF CONTRACT: 12 months with possibility of extension
Implement a national survey and two rounds of qualitative studies to identify factors that make Ethiopian women and their children vulnerable to poor RMNCHN outcomes.
Conduct primary and secondary data analysis (including systematic reviews and geospatial analysis) and develop technical reports.
Conduct population segmentation based on the evidence generated from the primary and secondary data sources.
Translate the evidence into an implementable program to effectively reach vulnerable population segments.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Statistical and geospatial analyses of national surveys to identify factors that make Ethiopian women and their children vulnerable to poor health outcomes.
Conduct population segmentation based on the sources of multi-dimensional vulnerabilities identified.
Engage in systematic review of literature to answer the overarching goals of the project.
Implement series of qualitative studies and engage in the analysis and write up of qualitative data.
Implement a national survey under the supervision of the Senior Pathways Advisor.
Organize and follow the recruitment, training, and field supervision of qualitative and quantitative data collectors.
Organize capacity building trainings to different stakeholders.
Regularly communicate with key stakeholders of the project including National Data Management Centre (NDMC) at EPHI, relevant directorates at Ministry of Health, Public Universities and others.
Regularly communicate with the Senior Pathways Advisor on the progress of the Project.
Discharge other related duties as assigned by the Senior Pathways Advisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates for this position should hold a Master’s Degree in Public Health (MPH) in Public Health OR Biostatistics OR Epidemiology from a recognized higher learning.
Hold more than six years’ experience in research designing, implementation, write up.
Good publication track record.
Comprehensive understanding of designing, implementation, analysis of qualitative studies, geospatial analysis, and surveys.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Willingness to travel to outside Addis Ababa including hard-to-reach and conflicted-affected areas.
