Job Description
Project HOPE is an international NGO working in more than 25 countries. For more than 60 years, Project HOPE has responded to the world’s most pressing global health challenges and transformed the lives of people and communities around the world.
With the financial support of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Project HOPE is conducting a research project “Pathways for Ethiopia”. The purpose of the project is to explore and identify factors that make Ethiopian women, including adolescent girls, and their children vulnerable to poor services utilization and health outcome through applying the “Pathways” method https://www.projectpathways.org/about. The project involves a mixed method using both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The objective of the qualitative study is to explore socio-economic, environmental, and cultural vulnerabilities that make Ethiopian women, including adolescent girls, and their children liable to poor RMNCHN services utilization and health outcome.
Project HOPE wants to employ a qualified and experienced facilitators for undertaking focus group discussions (FGDs) and in-depth interviews (IDIs) in all regions and city administrations of Ethiopia as per the specifications provided below.
POSITION TITLE: Facilitator for FGDs and IDIs
NUMBER OF POSITIONS: 14 (One per region and city administration)
REPORTS TO: Research Associate
DUTY STATION: All regions and city administrations of Ethiopia
DURATION OF CONTRACT: 30 days
Conduct FGDs with women having under five-children and carry out in-depth interviews with fathers of under-five children, adolescent girls, formal and informal community leaders, and health development army members following standard procedures described in the protocol of the study.
Complete key informant interviews (KIIs) with health extension workers (HEWs), health professionals working at primary health care units, and MCH focal persons at district health offices, and social affairs officers working at woreda administration level following standard procedures described in the protocol of the study.
Transcribe and translate the audio records from the local languages to English.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participate in a three-day training that will be organized in Addis Ababa and contribute towards finalizing the interview guides.
Take the lead responsibility for the field team and coordinate field activities including scheduling interviews and FGDs.
Conduct in-depth interviews, FGDs, and KIIs with identified study participants according to the specifications and quality requirements stated in the training manual and interview guides.
Make sure that the note taker has properly audio-recorded the interviews and has documented relevant observations.
Transcribe the audio records verbatim and translate from the local languages to English the same day of the interview.
Assure the quality of the translations and transcriptions as described in the training manual.
Archive data in a secured and password protected computer on daily basis.
Regularly communicate with the Research Associate of the Project.
Immediately communicate with the Research Associate if deviation from the protocol happens and act according to the direction provided by the Research Associate.
Conduct debriefing sessions with the Note taker on daily basis.
Participate in all field meetings organized by the Research Associate.
Submit the translations, transcriptions, field notes and audio records on daily basis to the Research Associate.
Discharge other related duties as assigned by the Field Program Coordinator.
Candidates for this position should hold master’s degree in public health (MPH) with experience in qualitative data collection in at least five research projects.
Comprehensive understanding of the Ethiopian health system.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Willingness to travel to the study localities in the different regions of Ethiopia.
Proficiency in the local language of the region in which the study will be conducted.
