Akobo Minerals AB (publ), is a Norway-based gold exploration and mining company listed on the Euronext stock exchange in Oslo, under the ticker AKOBO, currently with ongoing exploration and mine development in the Gambela region and Dima Woreda, southwest Ethiopia. The operations were established in 2009 by people with long experience from the public mining sector in Ethiopia and from the Norwegian oil service industry. Akobo Minerals holds a mining license and an exploration license over key targets in the area. Economic mineralization was discovered and the company is engaged in mining studies to advance the project to production, alongside exploration core drilling.
Summary of the Role:
Akobo Minerals is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Human Resource Manager to join their team on a contractual basis. The ideal candidate will preferably have a strong background in HR management within the mining or similar industries, with a deep understanding of Ethiopian labor laws, proclamations, and regulations. The HR Manager will be responsible for ensuring compliance, managing employee relations, overseeing recruitment processes, and handling documentation. The role requires regular visits to our operational sites outside Addis Ababa, and preference will be given to candidates with experience in international company settings.
Compliance Management:
Ensure that all HR practices are in full compliance with Ethiopian labor laws, proclamations, and regulations.
Regularly update the company on changes in labor laws and advise management on necessary adjustments.
Implement and enforce company policies and procedures to ensure a fair and consistent approach to employee management.
Employee Relations:
Address and resolve employee grievances and disciplinary issues in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.
Take corrective actions against employees who do not adhere to company standards or engage in misconduct.
Foster a positive work environment by promoting good employee relations and maintaining open communication channels.
Recruitment and Staffing:
Lead the recruitment process for new hires, including job postings, screening, interviewing, and selection.
Collaborate with department heads to understand staffing needs and ensure the right talent is hired.
Manage onboarding processes to ensure new employees are well-integrated into the company.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records, including contracts, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
Prepare and submit regular HR reports to management, highlighting key metrics and trends.
Ensure proper documentation of all HR-related activities and decisions.
Site Visits:
Conduct regular visits to camps and operational sites outside Addis Ababa to address HR-related issues and ensure compliance with company policies.
Provide on-site support to managers and employees regarding HR matters.
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
A minimum of 5 years of HR management experience, preferably in the mining or similar industries.
In-depth knowledge of Ethiopian labor laws, regulations, and proclamations.
Proven experience in managing employee relations and taking corrective actions.
Strong recruitment and staffing experience.
Excellent documentation and reporting skills.
Willingness to travel to remote sites as required.
Experience working in an international company setting is highly desirable.
Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
