JOB SUMMARY

The GBV Response Officer will be responsible for providing day to day case management and psychosocial support to vulnerable women, including survivors of GBV in the refugee camps. The GBV Response Officer will also oversee Women’s and Girls’ Safe Space (WGSS) activities including psychosocial and recreational activities, information sessions and skills building activities. The Response officer will supervise Assistant GBV Response Officers and Refugee social workers to facilitate services for vulnerable women and girls including survivors of GBV

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSABILITIES

Primary Responsibilities

•    Identify vulnerable women and girls including survivors of GBV who come, or refer to the WGSS for support;

•    Assess the needs of vulnerable women and girls including survivors of GBV and assist them to develop an action point for meeting their needs;

•    Link vulnerable women and girls including survivors of GBV to actors to access supportive services based on their needs, choices and consent;

•    Carry out requested ethical and safe follow up visits to monitor the progress of vulnerable women and girls including survivors of GBV and provide any support needed;

•    Liaise and advocate with actors in the camp to ensure the vulnerable women and girls including survivors of GBV have access to services they need;

•    Work with community structures including women’s association in the camp to ensure vulnerable women and girls including survivors of GBV who are seeking services are referred to WGSS for assistance;

•    Work with community structures and partners to develop and maintain appropriate referral pathway to improve assistance for vulnerable women and girls;

•    Participate in GBV related outreach and community mobilization interventions including information sessions and trainings in the camp;

•    Supervise WGSS activities including psychosocial, recreational, information sessions and skills building activities for vulnerable women and girls and girls in the camp;

•    Maintain good relations with community leaders and partners in the   camp;

•    Maintain records of activities and produce regular reports including weekly updates or Situational Reports (SitReP), success stories and lessons learnt;

•    Contribute to a positive IMC team environment

Human Resource Management & Capacity Building

•    Assist in the recruitment and training of refugee social workers, and volunteers

•     With support from IMC HR, conduct staff performance evaluations for GBV Response assistant and social workers in a timely manner;

•    In collaboration with Senior GBV officer, design and monitor capacity building strategies and mentorship for GBV Response Assistants and social workers in the refugee camp. 

•    Ensure staff support and debriefing processes are in place, and that staff safety planning is conducted and regularly updated;

•    Develop, implement and promote effective team communication techniques and systems, including regular senior staff meetings;

Coordination & Collaboration

•    Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all relevant stakeholders including Refugees and Returnees Services (RRS), UNHCR, District Women’s and Social Affairs, other partners and stakeholders in the Camp and host communities

•    Mobilize stakeholders to participate in GBV coordination and risks mitigation   meetings;

•    Collaborate with other IMC sectors and operations personnel to ensure that the program is properly supported and that all project-related operational activities are conducted according to IMC HR, Logistics, Finance and other policies and procedures;

•    In collaboration with the Senior GBV and Gambella team, promote and represent the interests of the GBV program with regards to all relevant stakeholders; 

Job Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

•    Typically, Bachelor degree in social work, psychology, sociology, Gender studies, Public Health or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

•    Typically, Minimum 2-3 years of experience

•    Trained on IASC GBV Case management 

•    Experience in Psychosocial support, WGSS safe space activities, women empowerment, life skill trainings, counselling and GBV case management 

•    Experience working in GBV programming in humanitarian context is a plus

•    Previous experience living in a hardship environment;
