Job Description

 Position: Translator (English to Afan Oromo)

Reporting to: Director of program Implementation

 Overall Responsibilities 

 The Translator will be an individual consultant whose main responsibility will be to translate the mental health group based interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT-G) implementation documents with quality, timeliness and professionalism. 

 Specific Responsibilities

  • Take initial orientation and briefing about the program

  • Translate the IPT-G tools (Mental Health Assessment tools, Therapy tools and M&E tools total of up to 50 pages) from English version to Afan Oromo in a simple and understandable language with simplified technical jargons. 

  • Work closely with the PH C&S team and Oromia regional Regional technical Advisor during the translation process

  • Timely submit the translated document and incorporate comments provided

  • Submit final translated documents in the agreed format and 

  • Write a brief translation/assignment completion report & timely submit

  • Minimum of first degree in health and health related field especially psychiatry or psychology background 

  • Previous experience translating of different mental health, health, or other communication materials into Afan Oromo 

  • Fluent in English and Afan Oromo

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of first degree in health and health related field especially psychiatry or psychology background 

  • Previous experience translating of different mental health, health, or other communication materials into Afan Oromo 

  • Fluent in English and Afan Oromo

  • Experience in development of HIV and mental health related material is desirable
