With funding from the German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO) via Caritas Germany, we are launching the Integrated Emergency Response for Drought-Affected Agropastoral Communities Project in the Elwaye and Dubuluq Districts of the Borena Zone in the Oromia region of Ethiopia. To support the implementation of this project, ECC-SDCO is seeking qualified applicants for the following positions.

Job Summary:

The Project Accountant will be responsible for managing the financial operations of the GFFO-funded humanitarian project. This role will ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance with donor regulations, and effective budget management. The Project Accountant will work closely with field staff to ensure the financial integrity of the project while providing support for financial planning and decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management:

  • Oversee daily financial transactions, including accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely processing and accuracy.

  • Prepare and maintain financial records, ensuring compliance with organizational and donor policies.

Budget Monitoring:

  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of project budgets, tracking expenditures against budget lines and reporting any variances.

  • Provide financial analysis to inform program decisions and resource allocation.

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare monthly financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements for the Project Manager and Finance Manager.

  • Ensure timely submission of financial reports to donors as per their requirements.

Audit Preparation:

  • Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation and explanations regarding financial transactions and records.

  • Implement audit recommendations and ensure compliance with financial controls.

Field Support:

  • Travel to Yabelo, Elwaye, and Dubuluq districts to provide financial guidance to project teams and support local capacity building in financial management practices.

  • Conduct training sessions for project staff and partners on financial procedures and compliance.

Cash Management:

  • Manage cash flow for the project, ensuring sufficient liquidity for operational needs while maintaining accurate cash records.

  • Monitor and reconcile bank statements, ensuring accuracy in all financial reporting.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, organizational policies, and donor requirements.

Reports to: Development Coordinator

Salary: As per the scale of the organization

Duration: One year end June 30, 2025, with possible of extension

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a humanitarian or development context with knowledge of donor-funded projects.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel).

  • Strong understanding of financial reporting standards and budgeting processes.
