With funding from the German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO) via Caritas Germany, we are launching the Integrated Emergency Response for Drought-Affected Agropastoral Communities Project in the Elwaye and Dubuluq Districts of the Borena Zone in the Oromia region of Ethiopia. To support the implementation of this project, ECC-SDCO is seeking qualified applicants for the following positions.

Job Summary:

The Driver will be responsible for ensuring safe and efficient transportation for project staff and materials related to the GFFO-funded humanitarian project. This role is vital for maintaining project schedules and supporting field operations through reliable transport services while adhering to safety and organizational protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Transportation Services:

  • Safely drive project staff, partners, and visitors to various locations as required, including field sites in Yabelo, Elwaye, and Dubuluq districts.

  • Transport project materials and supplies to ensure timely delivery to project sites.

  1. Vehicle Maintenance:

  • Conduct regular checks and maintenance of the assigned vehicle to ensure it is in good working condition and meets safety standards.

  • Report any mechanical issues or needed repairs to the Logistics Coordinator promptly.

  1. Trip Planning:

  • Plan routes and schedules for efficient travel, accounting for road conditions and safety considerations.

  • Maintain a travel log detailing mileage, fuel usage, and maintenance activities.

  1. Safety and Compliance:

  • Adhere to all traffic laws and organizational policies regarding vehicle operation.

  • Ensure that all passengers follow safety protocols, including the use of seatbelts and any other safety measures.

  1. Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate records of vehicle usage, including fuel consumption, maintenance, and any incidents or accidents.

  • Assist with the documentation required for logistics and transport operations.

  1. Support Field Activities:

  • Assist project staff in loading and unloading materials and equipment as needed.

Collaborate with field teams to coordinate logistics for meetings, training sessions, and community outreach activities.

Number of Posts: 02 (Two) one for Hawassa and one for Yabelo

Salary: As per the scale of the organization

Duration: One year end June 30, 2025, with possible of extension

Compliance and Reporting:

  • Ensure compliance with donor regulations and organizational policies.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Education: Secondary school diploma or equivalent. A valid driving license of Public 1 is mandatory.

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of professional driving experience, preferably in a humanitarian or NGO setting.

Technical Skills:

  • Familiarity with vehicle maintenance and basic troubleshooting.

  • Knowledge of local road networks and conditions in Yabelo, Elwaye, and Dubuluq districts.

Interpersonal Skills:

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and engage with local communities respectfully.

Language: Proficiency in English and Oromiffa for Yabelo based staff is essential.
