Job Description

Project HOPE is an international NGO work in more than 25 countries. For more than 65 years, Project HOPE has responded to the world’s most pressing global health challenges and transformed the lives of people and communities around the world.

With the financial support of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Project HOPE has launched the implementation of “Pathways for Ethiopia” project. The purpose of the project is to understand, reach, and serve vulnerable populations in Ethiopia through applying the “Pathways” method https://www.projectpathways.org/about. Aims of the project include identifying factors that make Ethiopian women and their children vulnerable to poor Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child Health, and Nutrition (RMNCHN) services utilization and health outcome, conducting population segmentation based on the key sources of vulnerability, and intervening to effectively reach the vulnerable segments of the population. The project also envisions to build the modelling capacity within the Government of Ethiopia health system with the goal of nurturing evidence-based PH decision making.

The Pathways Ethiopia Project will be implemented in close collaboration with the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) – National Data Management Center (NDMC), Ministry of Health (especially Maternal, Child, Adolescent Health; and the Policy and Strategy Research lead executive offices) and selected local universities.

To this end, Project HOPE will place three Pathways Fellows to MoH and EPHI. The fellows will be recruited in collaboration the respective host institutions. The fellows preferably should be existing internal staff of the respective organizations; however, staff members of local academic institutions may also be considered.

As part of the local capacity building activity of the project, the fellows will be supported to get enrolled in a local PhD program on parttime basis, preferably at Addis Ababa University, in relevant fields including Public Health, Epidemiology, and Biostatics. However, it will be the responsibility of the individual candidates to secure admission to a suitable academic program. If the fellows get admitted to relevant PhD, Project HOPE will support their study through:
