The Opportunity

As the Logistics and Warehouse Manager, you will be responsible for the inventory management and logistics functions for all malaria vector control activities on the PMI Evolve Project.

Project Description

The PMI Evolve Project supports the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) and USAID to plan and implement an integrated vector control strategy with the overall goal of reducing the burden of malaria while promoting equity to sustain malaria gains. Abt has implemented integrated vector control for PMI since 2011, delivering high-quality indoor residual spraying (IRS), technical assistance for insecticide-treated net (ITN) distribution and durability monitoring, and new approaches for larval source management (LSM). Additionally, Abt’s PMI-funded work manages the most comprehensive malaria vector entomological surveillance programs in 21 African countries to inform malaria vector control trends, strategies, and impacts. Under the PMI Evolve Project, Abt will further its delivery of integrated vector control programs by partnering with local communities, organizations, and governments to co-design and co-implement tailored malaria vector control programs. The end goal is fighting malaria while strengthening local capacity to sustain malaria gains.

Ethiopia is among the largest, fastest-paced, and most complex Evolve country programs. The team is responsible for planning, implementation, and monitoring of three large-scale vector control interventions (IRS, ITN distribution, and LSM) simultaneously in different regions and districts across the country every year while maintaining expansive geographical coverage of entomological monitoring for traditional and invasive malaria vectors, working with multiple local and international collaborators, and taking on frequent ad hoc assignments such as operational research, capacity strengthening, etc.

Core Responsibilities

  • Serves as the PMI Evolve Ethiopia country program Property Manager, managing the project’s inventory control system, including storage, affixing inventory stickers, quality control, updating and reconciling property records, and inventory reporting for all project assets and materials monthly to the project management.

  • Maintains an accurate, up-to-date register of all property.

  • File all product information included with new property (manuals, warrantees, etc.).

  • Responsible for designating another office member to conduct a semi-annual physical verification of the inventory and reviewing the results.

  • Support all investigations following a report of lost or stolen property, and ensure the appropriate documentation (memos, reports, etc.) are filed. The property details should be appropriately updated on the property register.

  • Prepare and submit the annual non-expendable property (NXP) report to USAID.

  • Lead the annual disposition process in collaboration with technical managers following the second physical evaluation of property towards the end of the year.

  • Directs and supervises the storage, distribution, and transport of all project assets and materials – whether IRS, ITN, entomology, LSM, or new malaria vector control products – commodities and equipment throughout the country.

  • Manages the logistics for all project activities, including IRS/LSM campaigns, routine and/or mass ITN distributions, entomological activities, and other events such as training, workshops meetings, etc.

  • Monitors the logistics and materials distribution plan before each IRS/LSM campaign or ITN distribution.

  • Supervises and manages the Warehouse Specialist and Logistics Specialist; delegates or assigns tasks as needed.

  • Works closely with local government stakeholders, partner organizations, and/or community leaders to leverage existing logistics capacity and elevate their skills.

  • In collaboration with the Environmental Compliance & Safety Officer and Logistics Specialist:

  • Ensures that all health and safety measures are in place and followed when utilizing insecticide- or larvicide-based products

  • Ensures clearance and proper disposal of all waste material and excess items from project stores.
