Program Background
PETCO Ethiopia is implementing 5-year of consortium project joint with Center of Accelerated Women Economic Empowerment (CAWEE) and Ethiopia[Ma1] Enterprise Development. The program is funded by the MasterCard Foundation contract to Enable Young Women and Men to Find Dignified and Fulfilling Work in Manufacturing in Ethiopia by capacitating existing SMEs. The program aims to:
Build SME capacity to sustainably create new jobs and improve existing ones through offering tailored business capacity building and mentorship; enhancing access to markets and raw materials flow; and improving SMEs’ human resources capacity to create safe and inclusive working conditions for young women and men.
Improve Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) offerings to better prepare women and youth to enter the workforce (facilitate school-to-work transition).
Facilitate a robust financial ecosystem to help SMEs access tailored financial services that allow them to grow and increase employment opportunities for young women in particular, and to invest in infrastructure that can improve young women and men's working conditions.
Strengthen the enablers (ecosystem) to foster private sector engagement, stakeholder coordination synergy, and policy development for sustainable and scalable job growth.
Job Description and Key Responsibilities:
The Solid Waste Management Sector Leads plays a multifaceted role within the consortium program and by leveraging her/his industry expertise, and fostering collaboration, and contributing to the program's success in propelling growth and innovation within the solid waste sub-sector.
Develop sector specific strategy, implementation methodologies and activities as well as tools, framework and guidelines.
Develop knowledge products such as best practice manuals, market research reports, or technology guides to disseminate valuable information to program beneficiaries in the subsector.
Contribute to the design of program activities by providing insights into the specific challenges and opportunities faced by businesses in solid waste sector. This ensures program activities are relevant, integrated and impactful to their specific sector.
Lead, manage and motivate the entire Solid Waste Management SMEs ensuring system wide operational and organizational excellence
Promote innovative best practices to improve service delivery from SMEs side
Liaison with key stakeholders within their sector, such as industry associations, training institutions, and research bodies. This fosters collaboration and ensures the program benefits from the expertise of these stakeholders.
Plan program activities and resource allocation that address the specific needs of businesses operating in that sector in a coordinated and integrated manner.
Lead the identification potential beneficiaries from their sector who can participate in program activities such as training programs, access to finance initiatives, or business linkage programs.
Engage in assessment, manual and strategic document development in collaboration with program team.
Collaborate with the MEL Working Group to develop sector-specific indicators to track the program's impact on businesses within their area.
Collaborate with access to finance specialist to conduct landscape analysis on access to financial resources and services, capacity building, product development, and collaboration with financial institutions for improved financial access and services for SMEs.
Supervise coordination center program activities, provide sector-wise capacity building training for program staff, beneficiaries and partners.
Facilitate the establishment and training of new solid waste collection SMEs; and capacity building activities on financial services access, BDS, BBS
Facilitate the strengthening of existing solid waste aggregators and collectors to foster their transition to value addition.
Lead the public and industry awareness creation interventions on waste management

Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline (Development Studies, a degree in environmental science, Circular Economy waste management, or a related field) and related.
At least 10 years of experience relevant to the work.
Previous experience in solid waste management interventions
Knowledge of waste management regulations and legislation
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to develop and implement waste management strategies
Proficiency in data analysis and reporting
Project management skills
Understanding of environmental impact assessment processes
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Strong organizational and time management skills
Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and documentation.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Fluency in English (both written and spoken); knowledge of Amharic or other local languages is desirable.
Willingness to travel within Ethiopia as required for project activities.
Demonstrated strength and experience in writing technical reports.
Demonstrated ability to build a team.
